When it comes to keys to amazing gains the old school (20 years) they had 5 RULES.

*10 hours minimum a week

*Go by Feel

*Ride the Fatigue

*Hang Daily

*Split Sets

Anybody have a good explanation on WHY 10 hours is not really necessary? I have seen many say no more than an hour a day. Can somebody elaborate on this subject so that an "old head" can understand the science behind it?

I can only speak on my own experience, back when I did manual stretches, jelqing and pumping I had sessions, daily, lasting 2-3 hours in one sitting.
Actually got about 1 cm in length from doing that for around 2-3 months. In my experience I’ve always had to go hard and that extra mile to get gains in any direction.

I’m that «more is more» type a guy, tried the «less is more» approach for years without gaining anything at all. Only when I put my heart and soul into this, as in very long sessions on the daily did I finally start gaining again.

Now I’m going the extender route clocking in thus far approximately 7 hours a day. Sure there’s some days where I don’t hit 7 hours but then again there are other days where I hit 8-9 hours so it all adds up.

Will be extending until I reach 10 inches BPEL, not joking as I want those double digits real bad. So let’s just say I’ll be extending for a good while into the future.

10hrs is actually quite a lot if you have other things taking up your time. If you have a standard office job, a partner, maybe kids, some sort of other commitments. . I’d say 10hrs a week will be hard to meet unless you have 1-2 longer sessions. I’m personally not making 10hrs per week. Will be lucky if I get 5-6hrs in. Wonder if that means I’m doomed to see no gains?

Not necessarily. You might and if you are in the newbie stage you will gain.

20 plus years ago, me and many other guys conducted a study to see what number of hours per week were most effective. From every other day, one set, to one set every day, up to me and a couple other guys hanging about all day. Ten hours or greater gave the best rate of gain.

You’re thinking of hanging only. Hanging is like extending just more intense. The mindset is the more hours you do the greater effect you’re having. It’s probably fair because most people who hang will do so at moderate weights and then go down in weight as the sessions continue. You have to do split sessions with hanging if you’re exceeding 20 minutes and you don’t want a dead dick.

For other methods of PE, 20 years ago was much like today. My own PE started at 20 minutes a day and went to 30-40 minutes a day 5 days a week. That’s 1.5 and then 2.5 - 3.5 hours a week. I don’t think you need more than that if you do manual exercises effectively. Pumping you might want a little more. Static forms of PE are always going to take longer.

The most important elements are heat. force exerted and the directionality and variance of that force. Time needed is dependent on these factors.

Thanks for the feedback. How did you apply heat? I imagine your old school so rice sock?

Sorry for jumping on this thread. I’ve used microwave heating and have moved to infrared heating pad. The problem I had with microwave was finding the right temperature. It gets too hot and it cools down in 5 min. Although 5 min is plenty long for a warmup, Ive been reading here advantages of continuous heat. So the heating pad seems to have the right controllable temperature and is continuous. I am too cheap to get any more into the more advanced heating sources, the risk and advantage probably doesn’t outweigh just settling with the concept of heat. We’re not trying to cook our dicks here. Although heat displaces collagen, which in a way is beneficial for this cause, we take the heat off to bring back healing and promote restoration to its new expanded state. Whether it’s pressure, tension, gravity, all these forces tend to be one directional, and heat allows molecules to move away. So conceptually speaking, as long as we’re not burning ourselves or succumbing to cancer, and if only I can speak of heat in a naturopathy rather than physics, I think heat is the biggest game changer of PE.
