I know that some common stretching advice given to newbies is not to grip the penis just behind the glans, so as to avoid putting too much pressure on the (supposed) nerve “bundle.” I never followed this advice, as I was not able to get a good grip otherwise. I never had any problem.
Conversely, I twice experienced nerve damage from my Bib hanger. I now believe that this was because I had the hanger too tight. I had it tight just to keep it from sliding down over the (supposed) nerve bundle. Because it was tight, it was putting excessive pressure on the whole of the part of the shaft that it covered, including the dorsal side of the shaft. I now tighten the hanger more moderately, and since doing so I haven’t had any problem, even though the hanger does slide down over the glans some (I am sufficiently wrapped, however).
I know that this is only one person’s experience, but my experience seems to support Hobby’s suggestion above.
Yes, this is important for how we approach certain PE exercises and how we design hangers, etc.
