Evolution, why no fat in penis?

Sorry I can’t tell you why not :) . I am asking.

There is a layer of skin over the penis shaft. If indeed penis size was a desired attractive trait, why didn’t we evolve into storing fat in this layer? We store fat in the pubic fat pad but curiously it stops where the penis shaft skin begins. Fat around the shaft would provide heat insulation on a crucial extremity in cold environments or even damage insulation from environments, accidents, or physical attacks even.

Fat might stretch the skin and make it loose when one lost fat from this area and provide a problem during intercourse? I don’t believe it would. From a functionality standpoint a long skinny penis will have the best chances of fitting all vaginal sizes. As it stands though a woman’s vagina has size adaptability built in for child birth, this shouldn’t be an issue in limiting penis size potential thru evolution.

Just some thoughts… Anyone know some facts or care to guess as to why there is no fat storage in penis shaft skin?

I think most women prefer a rock hard shaft, otherwise it can be difficult to feel.

Natural selection is not based on what a species likes, it is based on what is best suited for survival. There are a few examples of society affecting our evolution, like the case of sickle cell anemia but even that is based on a favorable, and necessary trait for survival. Perhaps some mutations did or even do exist where one has fat on their penis, but it did not proliferate because it doesn’t provide a great advantage over a ‘normal’ penis.

I mean, if only traits we found attractive were passed on, then there wouldn’t be any ugly people.

Insane indeed, but that is why I also mentioned the other possible benefits. Look at it in the reverse way, why isn’t fat storage on penis the norm? Why is it conspicuously lacking at all? There is plenty of fat on nearly all our area. The skin on our fingers lacks some fat storage, the palm side of our hands, ears, nose, lips, etc. Its possible that if fat was storable in penis skin it would have to be storable in the related part in women. Which could be undesirable.

Is there any animal that does have a penis with fat storage around the shaft? If so which ones? If not, why not?

Because apparently there is no advantage having fat in your penis. Anyway your question is much like: “Why don’t we all have 8x6 inches penises because of evolution?”

Yeah I guess your point makes sense but why stop there? Let’s all have fat noses, bulbous ears and fatty penises. Really it’s sad to think that you assume that this would be an advantage, it really sounds like you think evolution jipped you of a free ride. Try thinking back a “few” years and you’ll get us all running around as cave men according to evolutionists, survival first- remember extinction means no sex for you. Really who wants a nice massive SOFT cock with it’s fatty insulation, that and the balls are positioned so as to be able to regulate temperature in accordance with ambient temperature changes.

this maybe somewhat out of topic but maybe the reasoning is that evolution is a crock. How about design?

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t there usually a bone structure of some sort whereever you find fat?

My guess is that it has something to do with the ability to change size from flaccid to erect. If you had a fatty envelope - those that have had silicone / body fat / alloderm injected or placed under their skin can enlighten us on this - then the shrinkage will be hindered. When you are running after deer with a spear in your hand, a loose appendix that gets caught on underbrush might be negative from an evolutionary point of view. Not only do you come home without meat to placate your cavewoman, even if you did you’d be tending a nasty cut on your shaft (“Not tonight, dear, I cut myself while shopping for dinner again”). Compare to chimps, makaks, orangutangs, gorillas - I have never seen a dangling appendix on Discovery channel so far.

To answer bam , this is merely an intellectual pondering. It is just curious that the fat storage stops at the fat pad and the penis skin is lean. As to whether a large penis was desirable in the past that IS in question isn’t it? I’m not talking about SIZE of the unit I’m talking about the physical make up. Why don’t we have fat storage in our ears, fingers, nose to keep it from getting frost bitten for example. Not much fat around our skull either you’d think it’d be better to protect its contents.

Mgus it’s possible that a larger dangling flaccid might interfere with dexterity and movement. Have you seen those tribes with the penis cones though? They still hunt effectively.

As for the soft penis theory its possible. The question is though which is more pleasurable a hard thinner penis or a soft girthier one that is just as rigid. Perhaps evolution is saying that the penis DID NOT evolve to please women/female. The concept of pleasing or satisfying women is new? Some argue animals don’t have sex for pleasure and only thru instinct propogate their species. Primitive man just kidnapped and raped would be mates? Perhaps we will all end up 8 x 6 and the penis size evolution has ONLY just started. Perhaps it is tied to the evolution of women’s rights and individuality within society.

Why aren’t we all 7 ft tall ripped with bear like muscle, and cat like agility? Why can’t we see in the dark, have ultra sensitive hearing, more sense receptors in our noses, and have 12x8 dicks? Wouldn’t take make us better suited for survival? :/

I don’t think all evolutionary scientists subscribe to the theory that all our traits exist today through survival of the fittest.

For example:
Peacock feathers are a liability when it comes to running from predators.
We lost the vast majority of our body hair when it would have been better to keep it.
Human penises are bigger than most other apes, for what reason other than pleasure?

I don’t really think fat around the penis is necessary. The penis was evolved to urinate and ejaculate. Size was not ment to be an issue. It’s just something that is there to do it’s job, just like your arms, legs, fingers, and toes. I think size was determined by genetics. It is a body part that grows as any other and is started by genetics. If you want a bigger one, it is up to you.
