Well it’s true, isn’t it? The amount anybody spends on PE “equipment” is a joke compared to the opportunity costs of this hobby. That’s one of the reasons I chose hanging as my main PE method: the total time I couldn’t spend doing something else (e.g., reading, working on my computer) per session was just a few minutes. I could recover the cost of the hanger within a couple of hours of hanging spent working on something else (as opposed to a couple hours doing manual PE where I couldn’t get anything else done).
I also agree with this. Unless you’re in high school and living off of your parents’ income, the price of supplies is next to nothing compared to the time you need to invest. Hell, even in high school you’re missing out on being with your friends and developing socially.
I have a salaried position but I am bonus eligible. Doing all of this has definitely cut into the amount of time I’ve been able to bill my clients and will likely hamper my bonus.
One thing that I tell myself: I’d probably watch a lot of TV and play a lot of Wii anyway, so I may as well have weights hanging off my dick while I do it.
EDIT: I think this is an an overlooked benefit of some PE exercises that leave your hands free. It cuts into the opportunity cost. Using an ADS can nearly eliminate the opportunity cost. You of course need to weigh all of this against what’s most important: RESULTS.
