To be deadly honest, having a large penis is more of a modern trend.
But don’t get me wrong guys, I’m still up for gaining a few inches!
I’d really like to know the source and documentation for this information. I’ve heard this several times, but no one ever gives a source. Surely, one Greek ancient writer (probably a philosopher) wouldn’t prove much. It might just indicate an “intellectual” reaction against the common preference for large which “philosophers” might consider primitive and/or animalistic, not “refined” and not really represent a societal consensus. I’d be surprised if the large penis was not ALWAYS a popular attribute except for “small” sub-cultures.
The statue of “David” was by Michael Angelo during the Italian Renaissance if I recall correctly. The prudish “Church Fathers” would tolerate nudity in art in that period, but I am sure they insisted that sexuality be downplayed for statues displayed in public, thus the small penis on David. Also, “David” might be perceived as a “sex object” for more masculine, older males. Current day Italians do not have the reputation for admiring small peni.
I am not sure that all or most really ancient statues from Greece displayed “small peni”. I am told the Romans admired and even worshipped large powerful peni and had huge statues of them erect toward the rising of the “sun god” on some island … And on many statues all defaced by Christians in later centuries. The Romans also disparaged Greeks for their indulgence in homosexuality, but, of course, saw nothing wrong with Romans taking the dominant, penetrating position with another man or boy, often slaves and captives (Greeks?).
