Anyone?

I don’t know MrCanaduh

Mr Dave,

Do you have a ‘yrellow pages’ thingy, If so try under medical equipment - or some such heading, or try infra red heater. You may get some industrial ones listed, but hopefully you can find what you want there.

Alternatively ‘sports injury’ or physiotherapy equipment may have something.

Think around the subjects that could look promising ie, even medical supplies might have somethng.

Hope that helps,

Petit

Also check poultry and farm supply stores/websites in canada. These lamps are used on farms for keeping livestock warm, baby chickens, pigs ect.

That’s strange, I was telling someone the other day to use an Ir as the mum chicken kept on hopping off to canoodle with some big butch cockerell she fancied.

I suppose it’s one of the what goes around comes around things

I wonder who that someone would be? :whatever: . Anyway, she had her wicked way and it must have thrown her a bit, for she hopped back into the wrong box, onto a different clutch of eggs and started brooding all over again  . Stupid hen, bird brain or what, this sort of animal behaviour makes me so cross. I yanked her back to where she was supposed to be, but I think it was probably too late, in which case she’s a mass murderer as well! Plus, there’s the evident ingratitude when she attempts to peck my fingers off for disturbing her and I’m only have an odd grope to see if anything’s happening down there, not that there is :noreally:

Mrdave, that heating lamp company I mentioned to roccos recently, is only in the States, so it might be worth taking a look at it.

Ye Gods. Now he’s groping CHICKENS!!

I mean, Groping Chicks is bad enough, But When you keep a Cock and Chickery, One expects something better. I’d say he can think himself lucky all he got was some pecked fingers. Lucky the Rooster didn’t see him otherwise there would have been more than feathers flying.

So Brazen with it too. No wonder they call it a chicken run. I bet the poor things are run off their Parsons noses trying to get out of his clutches, Yes folks. they call it a clutch of chickens. Now you know the reason why!

MrDave,

If you’re anywhere near a decent hardware store, you should find what you need in the electrical section. Infrared bulbs are usually among the other light bulbs. Many houses have heat lamps in the ceiling of the bathroom, so the bulbs are fairly common. Then go and get a cheap lamp fixture. Mine is just a cord, light socket and cone-shaped aluminum shade with a spring loaded gizmo so that I can attach the lamp to the side of my desk or whatever. (Edit: now I see it’s exactly like the one in this post: shadow_cruiser - The best PE warmup is infrared!!!)

I like the idea of just walking into any electrical, hardware or farm supply store and saying you have young critters of some sort to keep warm — chicks, kittens, puppies…velocaraptors. They’ll set you right up with out asking any other questions (other than what kind they are and if they’re cute and whether you plan to eat them or sell them for animal testing.)

Which unfortunately reminds me, I have a really horrible memory of warming puppies with an IR lamp. For several years back in the mid-late sixties my family bred vizsla hunting dogs. (My dad hunted quail. They’re great upland bird dogs.) One winter our female had nine purebred ~ puppies, so my older brother thought it would be smart to put a heat lamp in the dog house. Well, somehow the mom dog knocked the lamp down, where it landed on the dry burlap bags on the floor of the house. The bags started to smolder. The mom dog started barking wildly, so my brother’s girlfriend went out and pulled aside the rug that was the door of the dog house. The new oxygen caused the dog house to basically explode. It was fully engulfed in seconds. We were only able to save one puppy. I’m still traumatized by that night.

So, um, on that happy note, be careful with infrared lamps.

 That’s gruesome Ike! There’ll be no lamps in my chicken house! :noreally:

Now then, what was I going to say (I’m a bit traumatized), oh yes, the day I bought the cheapo lamp and knowing it wouldn’t last very long, I asked at the little kiosk where I had previously bought light bulbs, if they had IR bulbs and much to my surprise they did, a very much stronger screw in type, but it wasn’t compatible for the lamp I had, so I just popped it back in the box.

The owner never said and I never thought about buying a suitable lamp to fit, thinking it would melt any ondinary lamp I would have, but given your information, this would have been the obvious thing to do. Well obvious to anyone with the least titter of wit!

Which wouldn’t be me :gulp:

Now why doe Rue’s chickens getting all mixed up and hopping into the wrong box not surprise me?

Did he, perchance, put the chicken in the IR box and the IR lamp in the chicken run?
