Masturbation and test levels

Masturbation and test levels

I was wondering if masterbation effects testosterone levels. If so, how much?

Consider the fact that testosterone is used up when sperm is created, so if you lose an increased amount of sperm by masturbating regularly then obviously your levels will go up. The increase will not really do anything except help to support the increase in need to create sperm.

Here’s something I’m not sure I’ve heard someone address before.

It’s a known fact that protein is essential for tissue/muscle repair. Now I know this could either sound really stupid or be a breakthrough, but perhaps some of your body’s protein that it would have used to repair the microtears in your johnson is being expelled during ejaculation thus negating the protein shake and fish sandwich you had earlier during your rest day.

I used to lift during highschool and when I reached a plaeteu I started drinking protein shakes. I almost immediately surpassed the plaeteu after I got these shakes in my diet.

The amount of protein in the ejaculate is very small. It isn’t using up your protein supply or affecting the body’s ability to repair injuries.

collnate410 is correct about T levels increasing after ejaculation for the purpose of making more sperm cells. Testosterone does not make your dick bigger or come into play during PE.

I would like to see a scientific study backing this up. Test levels are highest at about 4am during regular sleep. Cortisone levels rise throughout the day (stress related) suppressing test levels as the day progresses.

There are few people I trust more on this subject than bodybuilders and they cite a study showing that lack of ejaculation results in a test spike for up to seven days after…

Can Sex Affect Your Bodybuilding Gains? (half way down)

Anecdotally, most bodybuilders seem to agree that their aggression levels rise if they have not ejaculated for a couple days (and I agree).

I’m personally limiting myself to sex/masturbation every three days now as an experiment (it is tough)…

Edit: I should note that I am on 6-oxo and tribulus too so that doesn’t make the experiment any easier.

Endocrine response to masturbation-induced orgasm in healthy men following a 3-week sexual abstinence.

This current study examined the effect of a 3-week period of sexual abstinence on the neuroendocrine response to masturbation-induced orgasm. Hormonal and cardiovascular parameters were examined in ten healthy adult men during sexual arousal and masturbation-induced orgasm. Blood was drawn continuously and cardiovascular parameters were constantly monitored. This procedure was conducted for each participant twice, both before and after a 3-week period of sexual abstinence. Plasma was subsequently analysed for concentrations of adrenaline, noradrenaline, cortisol, prolactin, luteinizing hormone and testosterone concentrations. Orgasm increased blood pressure, heart rate, plasma catecholamines and prolactin. These effects were observed both before and after sexual abstinence. In contrast, although plasma testosterone was unaltered by orgasm, higher testosterone concentrations were observed following the period of abstinence. These data demonstrate that acute abstinence does not change the neuroendocrine response to orgasm but does produce elevated levels of testosterone in males

Northo, master edging. You manipulate your BC muscle as to disallow ejaculate being released, but powerful orgasm(s) are still present – hence only an increase in testosterone. The single most enjoyable method to raise bodily testosterone levels.

The Chinese study referenced in bodybuilding.com says that T levels did not change for the first 5 days, spiked on the 7th, and dipped on the eighth. I would like to see the actual study results because I find it hard to believe that the response was uniform for all 28 of the subjects tested. I would guess that on average there was a brief spike, and that it occurred on average on the seventh day. Since it then dips, I don’t know how this information could be used by a bodybuilder. The article says you could use this information to peak on a competition day or something like that, but unless you are testing your T levels daily, you could easily hit your dip instead of your peak since they are so close together.
The Chinese study would also suggest that limiting masurbation to once every 3 days would have no benefit, as the abstinence period is too short to cause the spike.
The study I posted above says orgasm doesn’t effect T levels, but 3 weeks of abstinence raises T levels.

It is a complicated issue and I’m sure that long abstinence would eventually drop T levels (from LH supresion as suggested by the Chinese study). Individual responses are unique, and knowing how to manipulate your own levels to some measurable benefit would be difficult without continual measuments.

There are so many benefits to ejaculating (some of them listed on bodybuilding.com), that I don’t think it is a wise way to try to control T levels.
It is a moot point for me, since I am unable to keep myself from ejacualting for more than a day anyway.

I would never advocate abstinence for a three week period - which is why I’ve opted for a much shorter period. Even if there was a strong correlation between lack of ejaculation and increased test levels there is little or no evidence that that will translate into a larger penis for people past the age of puberty (there is evidence linking test levels during puberty with penis size but steroid use certainly doesn’t increase penis size).

I’ve only been doing the every three days thing for about two weeks but I like it. I enjoy the sex more. I generally have a higher sex drive and do seem to have a higher energy level. I actually edge at least once per day because I suspect that the act of being aroused boosts test and I think it is good to pump lots of blood in there on a regular interval.

But as I mentioned above. I’m taking 6-oxo so my test levels are already raised.
