Mentor Request, Guidelines and Questionnaire

I could PM you, but since no one has yet responded to this thread, let’s make this a public Q&A:

What are you looking for in mentors? The Mentor Request, Guidelines and Questionnaire just says,
"Someday you may be a Mentor, or a Mod, or a guy with a big dick who enjoys sharing what he has learned about PE with others who want what you have."

Obviously, you want more than a big dick telling other people what to do. But how much experience? I don’t think I have enough of that under my belt yet, but surely, with all the members on this website, there must be some more experienced guys who can donate some time. Maybe they are feeling "unqualified" because they’re not up to 8 x 6 or "whatever." I know I’ve learned a ton from several "mentors" here, even though only one is an "official one."

You had a mentor didn’t you Josh?

Yes, I did have a mentor formally assigned to me. I had some questions about a particular issue, and he referred me to another vet with experience in that area. They have both been of great help, and I still ask for their input—both in PM’s and in postings.

Sometimes—at least for me—it isn’t needing an “expert” as much as something more personal than a forum to discuss the normal ups and downs of getting started as a newbie. Or getting pointed in the right direction when I hit a dead-end with my attempts at reading/searching.

There was a period of time (I was out of the country for a while), and one of them sent me a PM just to ask how my routine was going. It’s a great program, and I’d recommend it for anyone considering being mentored or being a mentor.
