I feel the surface deformation when semi erect. To me, its an indicator that the tissue has been stressed enough. It will feel rough all along the shaft, and when your unit is fully flaccid, it will feel as solid as a pipe. Oh, its the squishy kind of pipe insulation you can find at Home Depot. Like the attached photo. Cut a piece and use it as a liner. Works simply awesome.
