Volunteers needed-apply within

Hey guys,

We are trying to get a “Best Posts” Forum going here. We need volunteers to help choose which threads should go in the new forum. We haven’t nailed down the procedure yet, but if you want to be involved, post a reply here.

The pay is lousy and the work is hard, but it will make it easier for the next guy down the line. You know how hard it is to wade through all the posts here. :D

Hmmmm… one way to get the forum to quiet down.

Hey. Ask for volunteers and don’t expect every hand to go up. It’s like the army.

I read most of that thread (about starred posts, etc) and have a sense of where you all want this to go. So long as you are willing to deal with the very subjective evaluation of what I think is a best post as opposed to what others might, I’ll help as I have time.

Any guidelines you are offering?

I’ll help. Actually, I already got recruited so I’m signed up either way.

My criteria will be 1) relevance to the Forum topic
2) Usefulness of the information from a practical PE P.O.V
3)…well I’m not sure what 3 is yet. Besides, I cant remember more than three things at a time anyway.

I would like to volunteer as well, but admittedly my “expertise” is limited. Can I volunteer to judge a limited scope of posts?

This doesn’t have to be done by tomorrow or anything, does it?

Just give us the rules and responsibilities.

What is the plan for rating anyway…are we supposed to just go through all the threads and rate the ones we deem worthy?

We should probably post the final consensus on the method here.

Ok, as if I don’t have enough on my plate right now as it is, I’m going to volunteer as well.

I do think that us volunteers will need clear, concise instructions as to what we are doing. I’m still trying to figure that one out :) .

Geez guys and gal, we don’t need to make it all that complicated.

If a post is on topic (PE), has decent information in it, and for some reason or another makes you think it would be a “best post”, rate it a five star. It is your personal opinion that counts!

It would be nice to rate all the threads, but that is way too large of a project.

Anyone that wants to rate threads is welcome, the rating drop down box is at the bottom of the thread on the right hand side. You don’t need to “volunteer” to rate threads, just do it. The software will only allow you to rate a thread once.

Like that? Easy!

Now we need to start retro-rating…right?

I’m starting with the Main Member Forum. I am working from the oldest to the newest.

I have stack of threads that are printed out and I am wading thru them getting all the gold. I have probably read all the threads on hanging and general PE. I will rate them when I am finished reading and re-evaluating the best ones.

Just thought I’d let you know.

Oh yea, Another thing I thought of is maybe since hanging is a length orientated event and a hanger’s forum exists, maybe we should put all the girth related stuff in its own forum as well….What do you think? I think this would make it loads easier. Basically all length stuff goes together and all girth stuff goes together. You have to understand there is a wealth of information here, but you have to be able to find it…..

Hey bbs,

Use the search function to find posts on “girth”. Type girth in the search box, select “show as posts” and then select the forum you want to search in the drop down box. This will bring up a list showing the first sentence, or so, of each post from the searched forum. The search term “girth” will be highlighted inside the post also.

Once/if we get a “Best Posts” forum, then it can be searched the same way also. It should provide a smaller list with a lot better quality (assuming we get guys to do some rating) posts.

Yeah, I trudged through all the headers in the Main Forum, but I didn’t read every single thread. I had read all the previous posts before I joined, and have pretty much kept up since, so most everything was familiar. In all, it probably took me 3-4 hours.

I re-read the threads that stuck out by the subject, replies, views, number of posts, threads I remembered I liked, some I thought were important but underappreciated, etc. I was very picky and gave only perhaps a dozen posts 5 stars. I gave either 5 stars or nothing - no in between.

We need more people to go through and select best posts. I’m sure there are differing opinions, and not everyone will read every single post. There were some threads I wasn’t sure about, so I didn’t rate them.

I didn’t rate most of the threads already showing 5 stars. I think this was a mistake, and I encourage others to rate (or not) even the existing 5 star threads. Doing so might make later sorting easier.
