What does it mean to be a man?

Fellow dick pullers:

I came to the shocking (but not entirely unexpected) conclusion today that my interest in PE may stem, at least in part, from my not feeling like a “real man.”

Physicially, I fit the bill: I’m tall, dark, ugly, muscular, and have a slightly-above-average-sized dick. But those are not the real determinants. It’s what’s in your head that matters most. And what’s in my head is some confusion about what it means to be a real man and whether I really am one.

Yes, I like girls. No, I don’t fancy boys. I’m not talking about sexual orientation. I’m talking about thinking and feeling like a man.

So, I thought I’d ask the question: What does it mean to you to be a “real man?”

This is kind of personal but I love the confidence that pours off Rocco Siffredi during his scenes, sure it is show and antics, but he is the best at this show of confidence.

To me its being able to make a firm choice and out of the willingness and commitment to live with the ultimate consequences of that choice, to live at least a few precious moments without the torment of doubt and fear.

Doing the hard thing when it needs to be done, no questions asked.

This topic is of great interest to me and I have contemplated it ‘long’ and ‘hard’, and all the other elements seemed to be able to be distilled to the above. Do the right thing, do unto others, stand up and be counted, suck it up and drive on, all that comes down to doing the hard thing when it needs to be done.
Period.
Regardless of personal cost.
No bitching allowed.
Ever.

Shit, you guys make my reply look so shallow. :)

I’m gonna go with: claiming responsibility for the consequences of one’s decisions, good or bad.

I agree with you. Rocco is not only A man, but he is THE man.

What xenolith said was good too, but if you’re Rocco, the only consequences you have to deal with making sure the bitch doesn’t have any STDs.

The aim of life is self-development. To realize one's nature perfectly - that is what each of us is here for.

Now I got that Queen song “Tell Me What It Takes To Be A Man” stuck in my head. :p

I agree with most of the answers above. Taking responsibility and making tough decisions, etc. The only way to get that is experience. You have to make the decisions, live with both good ones and bad ones, and make each situation an opportunity for growth and maturity. The more difficult situations you handle well, the more your self confidence grows and easier it gets. A good man, IMO, balances that self confidence with humility and compassion.

In the days of my youth, I was told what it means to be a man,
Now I’ve reached that age, I’ve tried to do all those things the best I can.
No matter how I try, I find my way into the same old jam.

In my opinion, a lot of the things mentioned, have more to do with be decent human being than with being a man. They are not gender specific.

To stand for what you believe in and always to the right thing which is fair to all concerned.

Except for the Rocco remarks (:) ), it seems that people think being a real man really just means being an adult. Is that true? What’s the difference between being a real man and being an adult? What are the gender-specific traits that make a man a man?
