Why does the 'Side View' always suck?

On a VERY good day I can measure 8x6 bone pressed, so even I have to acknowledge that I am the owner of a big dick. But why oh why when I see my erect unit in side-on view does it look so distinctly average in length? I posted an earlier thread about your dick touching your belly button as being a good measure of being hung. This may be a similar (illogical) obsession I have developed. Porn may have something to do with it as porn stars who appear long in the side view seem to be impressively long in my view. They are, luckily, quite rare. Comments please?

I have noticed this too Irish Jim, wish I knew the answer though i think a camera would give you a realer explantion than a mirror my friend. Have you gained at all?

I have gained substantially, mostly from pumping, over a VERY long period of time (long before this site existed!).

I have noticed the same thing. For me, I think it’s because I carry more fat on the sides than on top. My fat pad is roughly 3/4” on top, but maybe 1 1/4” on sides.

Get an erection and push the fat out of the way(assuming you have any.)
My dick looks SO much larger when I do this.

Could also have to do with upward angle pulling skin and fat into a “bunched” position at the base, which would bury even more of your penis.

And yes, it sucks. My dick looks like 6” nbp when in this position(currently 8 1/4 bp.)

I’ve noticed it too. Distressing. One possible explanation is that the more girth you have, it makes your unit look proportionally shorter. Guys with 8” length and 5” girth look longer than 8x6 guys in profile. I think…

I definatly agree with Cheeva on this one. I guess Im thick at 6 inches, but damn I look short. My girlfriend even admits that I look shorter than I really am. Im about 6.75 in length.

Yea, my girth kills my length visually. Thats why sometimes, I doubt that I’m rather big when I look at myself.

How tall and how much do you weigh? I think that would have an effect on how large you look. Also its possible that your corpus spongiosum is large making your vertical width (viewed from the side, topside to bottom) look larger compared to your width viewed from the top. With the length staying the same a larger width would make it look shorter. I actually have the opposite problem (if you want to call it that). I think my side profile is more impressive then me standing looking down at my erection. I actually don’t really feel small at all though and I’m no where near as big as you two. 6.75BP x 5.5MSEG. Thunders place actually gave me more confidence in my size. Still I wouldn’t mind being bigger. I’d like 7NBP x 6MSEG, but I’m in no hurry to get there. That’s about 3/4 to gain in length and 1/2 in girth.

Irishjim, I have a pump as well and use it occasionally. I was wondering how often did you or do you use it? Over how many years and what were your gains? I find pumping to be so easy, as opposed to jelqing and stretching. But I have had only minimal gains. About a 1/4 inch in girth and nothing noticeable in length maybe a 1/4 though.

Thanks for all the input, some very interesting observations. I think the basic problem is the mental block that many of us have regarding our size; i.e. it’s never going to be big enough. Watching way too much porn of course doesn’t help either. I am 6’ 2” and have minimal fat pad, so I think of all the physical explanations, the girth to length ratio sounds most plausible in my case. As for gains, I have gained 2”, but wait for it; my PE career began in 1980 (I’ve given details of how this early Jurassic era happening came about in other threads)! In those 20 plus years I have had only 3 consistent spells of PE; early 1980’s (until I got married); 2 years in the mid 1990’s; and pretty much constant since joining this incredible site in 2004.

With me, I have a left curve. So, from one side my dick looks shorter (or is that on one side it looks longer? :) ) . Girth also makes it look shorter.

Yep! But pictures don’t give that size justice. I believe that 7.5 x 5.5 is ideal. I am at 8. 125 x 5.8 and I can’t believe my size. When I used to clamp, I got up to 8.6 X 6.25 and that was fucking enormous. Some of the guys here are that size with out clamping. You have to see one for real and not pictures to really know what a big one is. A big one is not always good, blow jobs start to feel teeth and a lot of other things to deal with like getting a all of a sudden wood at work.

It is true, the thin long cocks look longer on pics and bigger, but if you see a 8 x 6 or bigger in person, your jaw will drop. When it is front of you, it is unbelievable.

I’m glad this thread was started. I’ve had the same problem. I’m 7.25 x 5.325 , which is not really small, but , in the mirror, when I see it from the side, I look short to me. I mean it looks, to me, like it’s only 5.5” inches long. I don’t know what accounts for this. Porn stars don’t look smaller from the side., in fact, i think a lot of times they show profile shots between thrusts just to impress you with the size. What is the real cause of this? There has to be a logical, scientific reason for this.
