About the signal generation. Here’s the ideas I’ve come up with:
1. Using digital to analog converter cards. They come in various styles and arrangements. On the down side they cost a lot and would be complicated for novices to install on their computers. On the upside they could generate practically any signal you could think of.
2. Stand alone signal generator. Expensive, bulky, but easy to experiment with.
3. Using a transformer from radio shack. Cheap. Can’t vary the signal unless you build a homemade circuit.
4. Using your computer in ways it wasn’t designed for. F or instance, using the audio out port. This would be the best option IMHO. Cheap, everyone has the part. Especially attractive if there is open source software for using your audio port as a programmable signal source.
By the way, if using the wall outlet I think this is a 60Hz signal right? But then connecting it to an inductor would reduce this frequency?
I don’t remember my first year E&M very well, I may start a new thread dedicated to developing the E&M ideas.
