The first material I tried was plastic from a PVC tube. It seemed ideal at the time but it’s really not strong enough to be used for a hanger because it bends around your dick when tightening. The sides should stay straight while tightening to be able to get a good grip for light to heavy weight hanging. For my latest hanger I used a sort of reinforced plastic which hardly bends at all under full pressure. If you use wood make sure it’s strong and/or thick enough to not break during use.

Juri, if you had read the sticky threads at this forum or used the searchbutton you would have known what the AFB Hanger looks like. The benefit of this hanger is that it’s free, simple to build and very effective even for heavier weights.
I’m uncut and being uncut makes hanging seem harder, because if you don’t tighten enough the hanger will slide down with your skin against or over your glans where as when you’re uncut there’s not enough excess foreskin for that to happen. However when you’re uncut you can avoid the sliding down by attaching the hanger tighter which in turn makes hanging more effective because then you are only stretching the tunica/ligs and no skin.
So when you know how to hang being uncut is better for hanging ;)
