Is the septum what makes the tunica so tough to stretch

What gives the tunica strength is its fibers. The tunica has an inner layer composed of circumferential fibers and an outer layer composed of longitudinal fibers. The circumferential layer resists girthwise stretching whereas the longitudinal layer resists lengthwise stretching. Without the fibers reinforcing the material, the tunica would be quite weak (I think).

Collagen fibers have a greater tensile strength than steel. I don’t know, however, whether that means that the tunica, as a whole, is stronger than steel. In other words, the overall assembly of fibers in the tunica may be weaker than the individual fibers from which it is formed. Cross-linkages hold the fibers together. The strength of the cross-linkages thus determines the strength of the overall structure.

I just did a bit of research and it looks like as a whole unit tendon’s tensile strength is ~100MPa, while for steel it is around 400MPa.
Depending on the type of steel used for the data, the range for tendon strength seems to be about 20%-40% that of steel.

-My dear boy, do you ask a fish how it swims? (No.) Or a bird how it flies? (No.) Of course not. They do it because they were born to do it...

Awesome! Thanks, Tube. I don’t know to what extent the tunica differs in composition from a tendon. I’d bet they’re pretty similar.

According to one of the references in the Wiki the tunica ruptured at a stress of 16 to 45 Mpa depending on the position on the circumference.

Mine sure is. The damn thing! My ligs too. The whole thing is made up of some supersteal material. It simply won’t lengthen!!!

I should sell the thing to NASA and they could build spacecrafts out of it.

Allright I did the test of pulling staight out on my penis to test where the strain was coming from.

When I pull hard, as if I’m doing manual stretches, I feel it mostly in the underside of the shaft-midshaft

If I just pull straight out and make my penis ‘taunt’ and feel around on the top of my shaft, I can feel the septum-chord, and it feels rather tight, like it’s holding restricting my penis from being stretched any further.

This might not make sense, hopefully it does. Like I said, when I stretch hard, like I’m doing man. Workouts, I still feel the stress on the underside of the shaft- and even though this is happening, should I still work the septum just because of the other feeling I experience when I just pull out, but not to hard.. Or is that feeling pretty standard?

To actually stretch the septum, is straight out the way to go? Does it resist much tension or is it relatively easy to stretch?

Any help would be greatly! Appreciated.

Ps- I already do straight out pulls, but I really feel the most stress when I do DLD’s and straight up stretching on the underside of the base of the shaft. Would this correlate with the fact that -that is the part I need to work on, rather than the septum, beit that I feel the most stress in these type exercises and she sheath of the tunica is my current limiting factor?
