Some guys have received good gains with as little as three hours per week. It depends on how agressive you wish to be. I think more than four hours per day is overkill, but if you have the privacy time, and other things to do while hanging, it can be worth it.

I did many sessions per day, from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm. Also, sometimes a couple of sets at night. I concluded I did not need to do that much to receive the same gains, but I did have the time to do it.

The purpose of hanging is to get better results than from manual stretching without having your hands tied up for long periods.
