The main problem is the small splits that develop at the ends from stretching the sleeve onto the hanger and from rolling them up, as long as you catch them early and trim them off the sleeves last for months.
Cap’s right. To make the sleeve last a bit longer, make sure that there are no tears in the silicone at either end before putting it on. If you see one starting to form, trim it off with a pair of scissors to make the edge smooth again.
I also find that the harder silicone compounds last longer than the softer ones. I ordered two from monkeybar (soft & thick and medium & thick), and the medium one lasted a year while the soft one lasted only 6 weeks.
To save a little money, I tried the technique that TPS described in a thread he started awhile ago on how to make your own sleeves with silicone compound you can buy from a variety of places. I was able to make about 10 sleeves with a small tub of compound, and they ended up costing about $6 each for materials.
