Austin - Anyone have a CTC?

I’ve been toying with the idea of buying one of them fancy dancy CTC pumps or building one. I was wondering if there is anyone in the Austin TX area that has one to get rid of or perhaps I could borrow the pump to see what it’s about. I’d like to try an automatic variable pressure pump.

Personally I will stick with the Vacutech pump. I have heard good things about the CTC pumps. It is all a matter of preference.

Hey Boogie Man, you might not have noticed electron’s fairly recent thread, where he tells how you can make your own! I can’t fathom it out of course, but that doesn’t mean very much! :noreally:

He’s very clever you know and very helpful too, so I’m sure he would answer any questions you might have on the subject :nodding:

Thanks for the replies guys. I saw the awesome post on how to build my own and I book marked it for reference. The pump for that one is still $175 so I was checking to see if I’d get lucky enough to find one cheaper but doesn’t look like it. I built a manual one - was just looking for one with the motor cheap. I may have to build one of those others though - looks sweet. :)

Trouble is, I’m not anxious to part with it! I think it’s better than anything else I’ve seen, but then I might be biased! :)

I can show you how to build one, or help if you get stuck. If you want to look at it or try it, we may be able to figure something out. I’m down in San Marcos now, but I go up there now and then. It looks like I’m moving to Austin after school ends this semester. More social activities and things to do up there, I can’t wait. :)

Electron’s machine is the shiznit. I’ve finally got all the parts I need to make me a hybrid of his and my designs. My new setup will do the slower, longer cycles like his and can be switched over to do the faster, shorter cycles like my old one. I’m starting fabrication this weekend. This stuff is addictive!

Anything to help the cause of PE, I’m glad to help if I can.

The only tricky part is getting the relay wired right… it can be confusing if you don’t know how to interpret the wiring diagram that comes with it. Don’t hook it up wrong and burn your relay out!

I should post another pic over there showing how the socket is wired… I have made a little modification since then, too. I changed the muffler configuration a little to make it quieter.

electron, I’m using a 24 VDC version. My other setup runs on 24 volts so it was simpler to stay with that. Plus, DC is so much easier to control. It was a bit harder to find the timer. A picture of your wiring would be good for anyone not familiar with electronics. Those diagrams can be a bear sometimes…

Maybe Sunday I can get a picture of the relay socket posted over there. Wow, it sounds like you’re going to end up with a super-duper nuclear powered, fission propulsion unit when you get done! You will have to chain it to the floor so it doesn’t go into orbit! :) You will have to show us some pics when you get it done!
