I plan on reshaping the flared plastic up, away from the body and then bending it to an oval shape. Considering the top part, I wont touch the last two inches to keep it intact. Do you think I can do it with hot water?

100 degrees probably won’t make it soft enough. As Stretch mentioned earlier, you can use a blowtorch. A gas burner on a stove top may also work for the flared part.

If I use a stove top, would the fumes stain the cylinder?

It would be more unwise not to stand there and watch the process. Like I said I’ve done it before flame on PVC, lo and behold it didn’t catch fire or explode. I am from the country we do shit this way. You must be from the concrete area.

I’ve had bad experiences from unnecessary risks. It’s best to consider all options before jumping on something I have no knowledge of.

I was just trying to help you and you said it was not wise, I didn’t care for that and hell I think it’s genius. And as a redneck, I have experience with heating PVC.

Personally, I would do it in the oven. Just like momma always said, preheat the oven before you put something in it or it will burn and keep an eye on it once it’s in.

You don’t have to believe me here is scientific proof that it has very good flame retardancy.

You beat me to it; I was going to mention that I’m planning on purchasing a heat gun. I need it for other things anyways.
