Made My Pump Today!!

I did some calling around to shops that deal with autoparts and such to see who had vacuum pumps to sell, I gave up after 3 tries, apperently it´s not as common in Sweden as in US. The bloody clerks I talked to asked a bunch of questions like what I needed it for and what brand of car and all sorts of things, I don´t even have a drivers license and I certainly can´t answer techical questions about cars and what I needed a vacuum pump for… Just too uncomfortable, I will try to order one from the internet, can´t find a single supplier in Sweden but have mailed a couple of UK ones with no answer so far.

I´ve done a search on aquariums and cyliders in swedish but not a single page mentions any cylinders like that, so guess that´s another thing they don´t use in sweden, stupid aquarium people. Had to mail PetSmart and ask if they delivered internationally and they replied quickly and very kindly so now I almost feel bad for just ordering two gravel cylinders from them. what the hell kind of order is that anyway?

I guess this is why some people just go ahead and buy a overprized pump from a sex store, because it´s easily available and you don´t have to answer a 100 questions about things you have no clue about :p

Rocco, you don’t have to have a vacuum pump. I’ve never bothered with one for pumping. You can suck on the hose to the desired vacuum, then bend the hose in half and clamp off with a spring clamp. Works for me.

A vacuum gauge is important, IMO. I use one I got at a yard sale for a couple bucks. Auto parts stores sell vacuum gauges. Money spent on a decent gauge is better spent than on a pump.

Rocco, it sounds to me like you were asking the wrong question for your pump. If I understand correctly, a vacuum pump is an actual car part, that is why they were asking you about make, model and so on. What you need to ask for is if they carry the MityVac brake bleeding pump, in a mechanics world they use these pumps to draw brake fluid through the brake lines when they do a brake job. Try giving them that description and I am almost positive you will get one. MityVac to the best of my understanding is a world wide company so you shouldn’t have a problem. If they say they don’t have the MityVac they may tell you about another bleeding system that requires you to suck on a tube manually, obviously you don’t want that. Some places may also have a bleeding pump kit that isn’t made by MityVac so whatever they offer you just be sure that it comes with the pump. Hope this helps you get your pump Rocco,B1.

Thanks hobby,

so where do you apply the gauge? I´m not sure how those work. I´m guessing you would put it somewhere between the tube and the source of suction and that it´s a pretty simple mechanical device.

Still have to get my cylinders though. And I´ll keep looking for a pump, but good to know your options! Maybe I´ll start with that.

b1,

no kidding I was asking the wrong questions ;)

I thought I had done my homework but vaccum pumps were only mentioned on american or british sites, unless they were refering to the actual car part. Unfortunatly I don´t know what the heck brake bleeding would be in swedish either and if I start to ramble in english I´ll just sound like an even bigger fool…

I´ve done several searches on cars, pumps, vaccums, brakes and mity vac (and the american version - mighty vac) in different combinations, in swedish and english and not a single hit in swedish. Which gave me nothing to start with except the brake bleeding that I had read at first, and since I had no idea what that was I and I had no idea there was some auto part also called a vaccum pump ON the car already I just tried to explain about a handheld vacuum pump device with a pistol grip handle and they kept bugging me about what I needed it for and seemed clueless.

One girl seemed to get me right at one time but the device she refered to, that they had, was something called Gunsun and that didn´t give any hits in swedish on google but a lot of japaneese ones, unfortunatly refering to some philosopher. And it didn´t sound quite right to start with, from her descripton.

I have a plastic T fitting that sticks into the end of the tube with the help of a faucet washer. I’d have to draw a pic to explain. No matter - a T fitting comes off the tube, one hose goes from the T to the vacuum gauge. This hose is fairly long so the gauge can be hung out of the way when I water pump in the bathtub. The other hose from the T is for sucking on to draw vacuum. These hoses are thick, black, automobile vacuum tubing because that’s what I had on hand.

I suck to the vaccum I want and then kink and clamp off the suction hose using a stout spring clamp. It holds vacuum wonderfully.

I read you hobby, thanks. Except the faucet washer thing, but then you told me about having to draw a pic, so I´ll leave that be ;)

How do you waterpump? Fill the tube 3/4 up with water and then suck the rest of the air out? Why isn´t this possible with many pumps when it´s possible to do manually like you do it? Excuse me if I´m daft here, but I have no experience with this. Thanks for your patience.

Rocco,

I water pump in the bath tub. Fill the tub with very warm water. Hang my vacuum gauge up out of the way on the shower head or faucet, and get in the bath. Submerge tube and erect dick. Adjust amount of water in tube through trial and error so an air gap remains at the top (I prefer not to suck the same water my ass is in :) ). Suck on the hose until the gauge shows the desired vaccum. Bend the suction hose in half and clamp it off using the spring clamp. Set my timer and wait. Do some kegels and think happy thoughts. Simple. No lube is required in the water.

Pumps need a separate bowl to catch any sucked in water. I suppose an air pump would lock up if it takes in much water. I don’t have to worry about that; I just spit it out.

Right, thanks again hobby!

Then I suppose it´s possible to waterpump with a pump too, as long as one is careful not to get any water into it. Or maybe the humidity is enough to make that a bad thing.

<------- You likey?

If you don't take the time to do the PE exercises how do you expect to gain? The fairy godmother of PE?

Here’s how I attach the hoses to my aquarium tube. I’m sure there are better ways. I was lazy and just wanted to get it functional. It worked so well I haven’t bothered to come up with something better.

The faucet washer fits snugly in the clear hosing that came with the tube. It butts against the top of the nipple.

Nice pic, thanks! And now I understand that faucet washer thing, a bit different terminology, and those words aren´t in my english dictionary from school ;)
