It’s not a good idea to increase by 2” Hg so rapidly. The vacuum is going up that quickly because your head is forming a seal. This could lead to water blisters or worse.
Have you tried using a straw?
Alternatively, when you milk the tube, don’t pull it out so far; rather, push it in towards the base.
