Did I ever knew how to do it in the first place? One my successful method for this was to get the inevitable burning ”out of the way” by clamping. So I clamped like plus two hours before pumping and D went red/blue dotty and the burning feeling started, but it was milder than in regular first time pump sessions after break. A couple of hours after that I succeeded to pump pretty regularly, without burning or harsh bruising. Was that just dumb luck? Don’t know.
