Yes! You saw the “very similar” pump at Harbor Freight that I had already hinted at in my preceding post, it sells for some $25 cheaper I think! However, what Harbor Freight do not have is the spare parts as does the Actron website. You can not buy the vacuum gauge alone from Harbor Freight or any other spare parts for their version. Although these Actron gauges are a very small gauge the size is adequate for our purposes, and I still can not find a better price than $5.65 USD anywhere for any other suitable vacuum gauge. Please clearly understand that I was not recommending the Actron pump above the Harbor Freight pump, just identifying the cheapest gauge I could find. If I was buying the whole hand pump, I’d likely go with the Harbour Freight since lots of people have recommended it, both that and I’m just a cheap bastard too!

Sorry “TheGreatDivider”, but I can not tell you the details or specifics of the “Rena” aquarium air pump conversion since I have never done it myself. Try as I may, I have been completely unable to find any Rena aquarium products whatsoever in the stores in my corner of the world… and I am the sort of person who is extremely reluctant to buy any stuff off the Internet! So, I have never done this conversion. However I did discover that for the DIY type person who wants to make their own “pumping” equipment, the aquarium section at most pet shops have almost everything you need, much more so than any hardware store I’d dare suggest!
Have done a lot of reading about this conversion in the past though, and most people have commented how they found it startlingly easy to convert these Rena Aquarium Air Pumps to draw a vacuum rather than blow air as originally intended. You will need to do your own reading first of course to see if it is right for you! Going from memory which might be a little rusty, it has typically been the Rena 200 (or Rena 300?) model that has been converted into a vacuum pump. When the case of the Rena is opened, it is possible to lift the small rubber diaphragm to get access to a small disk with one way air valve(s) in it. By flipping, turning or reversing this air valve disk, the direction of air flow is reversed from the usual blow to suck. Many people who did the conversion found that the vacuum produced was almost exactly the often recommended pressure of around 5 inch Hg too! I might have remembered some of that wrong but it is apparently a very simple modification for most people, and one guy who said he’d never even used a screwdriver before had successfully done it.
Much has been said about this conversion over at newart forums, however I no longer recommend people to go there anymore. Fairly sure this has been mentioned briefly here at thunders before… searching, I’ll get back to you…

LOL! Thanks for that comment. Laughed so hard, three drops of pee came out!
Some people here just have the greatest avatars. Took me a long time to find an avatar I would be happy with, then saw this pic! It’s pretty good but not great, I may change it from time to time. Sadly, shrinking the image down to 100x100 lost some of the impact of Ray’s expression of surprise! The eagle eyed will also notice that I reversed the image left to right to make it appear that Ray is looking at my post.
How’s your search for an avatar going?
