Window defroster idea

I was thinking about rear window defrosters , I do live in Maine , and it is almost November !

The thought occurred to me , that a rear window defrosting grid might be applied to a vacum tube .

They run on twelve volts , so it could be battery operated , and I am sure a rheostat could be wired to it so you could adjust the heat .

Just a thought .

Just wrap your tube in a small electric heating pad. Also use the pad for your warm up. Target has them for about 15 bucks.

Those pads run on 12 volts ? I think they need to plugged into a 120 volt outlet , right ?

I am thinking about mobility , and visibility with this idea .

Hell , you could even plug it into your cigarette lighter outlet in you car , if you wanted to pump while driving .

Test Pilot it, and let us know how things work out.

I don’t think those window defrosters get anywhere close to generating enough heat to warm a cylinder effectively and they are also very delicate.

I’d go with a heating pad, the rear window defroster might get too hot. I use a heating pad to warm up with and warm down. I live in New York State and it get colder than shit here too.

I had a similar idea a year or so ago and looked into designing a tube that had wires similar to an electric blanket and a thermostat for setting levels.

I was thinking it might be worth building them as the demand would be high for a clear heated cylinder but as it turns out, not easy to make unless the wires can be part of the injection moulding process or two cylinders are used with a gap in between for the wires. Option 2 would be bulky but easier to build.

I was not about to put up the cash to build a prototpe and just hoped the pump manufactures got around to building such an item.
