Can we talk about acne here?

I notice others talking about such vein subjects as hair loss, can we talk about acne since it relates kinda?

I am 31 and I still get acne!?!? Its not horrible but its enough to notice! Right now I have about 10 pimples on my face some of which are more noticeable then the others. I know I should see a dermatologist, but I cant right now because of having no med insurance. In the past I have seen one they have sorta cleared the acne with antibiotics, but never completely. I know that men have a harder time responding to over the counter medications more so then women, so not much over the counter help.

Was wondering if any of the rest of you on this board have this problem and have overcome it somehow?

Thanks.

I too am 31 and “suffering” from acne. For me it is more laziness and diet than a medical condition though. I’ve found the more crap I eat and the less care I take the worse my skin gets. I can’t really speak much for diets because mine is predominantly crap but, if you haven’t already, you should give the Nivea for Men and Neutrogena face cleansing products a try. Alternate (as one kind tonight, the other tomorrow, rather than one right after the other) the ones containing Salicylic Acid (~ 1.5 - 2%) with the face scrub and you should be clean in no time. Also, I’ve heard mixed results about Provida but if you are willing to drop about $30 you can try it - some people I know swear by it, others don’t.

However, if you are already on a healthy diet and cleaning routine, you are gonna want to take a shot at a dermatologist.

Yeah my former dermotologist swear that it had nothing to do with diet, but I can tell you it seems like it does, particularly when I eat a lot of refined foods. Problem is I cant afford that fancy pants whole foods diet its so expensive!

Wow! That is steep for that Provida. How long does it last?

Do you have dandruff problems as well? Im asking that because one of the dermatologist i was talking to suggested that in certain people dandruff could cause acnes.

Walk slowly but never backwards.

Hmm well yeah I have a bit of dandruff from the gel I use. Seems they all cause a sort of dandruff.

I wash my face morning and night with that really gentle liquid soap, cannot think of the name but its a white bottle with a large blue label and white type, its dermatologist recommended. Currently I use no acne product because frankly none of them do anything. I do use my gf toner (lol shhhh she doesnt know), its some fancy pants clinique stuff.

Well I just bought some Nizoral for my receeding hairline so maybe that will help with the acne.

If anyone knows of a hair gel or any kind of styling product that will not cause dandruff Im open to suggestion.

Try increasing your water and fiber intake. That cleared my skin right up.

GM

Yeah maybe fiber. Water is great though I drink a ton!

Try benzol peroxide to kill the acne causing bacteria on your skin.

My face broke out for a long time. I am 26 and no longer am breaking out. Knock on wood. I hit puberty very early though.

Most of my doctors always told me it wasn’t what I ate. Will I am here to tell you that, IT IS WHAT YOU EAT.

Here is what I did when I was about 19, almost got rid of my breakouts.

First of all stay away from ALL grease foods. Absolutely no, Cheeseburgers, french fries, chocolate, doughnuts, candy bars, deep dish pizza….. pretty much all junk food will give you a zit. No deep fried food, like fried chicken. It is a very good idea to just stay away from all fast food, but if you go there order to baked or grilled chicken sandwich. Not the deep fried chicken sandwich. You can eat cheeseburgers at your house just squeeze out all the grease before eating on a paper towel.

Second and this really does work. Every day morning or night eat a big bowl of Raisin Bran (Fiber which is very important)

A banana and a cup of Orange juice (Vitamin C does many things)

Drink at least a gallon of water each day.

And take a vitamin E pill. Which men should take everyday anyway.(antioxidant for your immune system).

Wash your face with mild soap twice a day but don’t over do it with all the other crap that is for sell.

Finally wash you pillow case alot during the week. As oils from your face build up on your pillow case.

Bottom line no more fast food, high fiber and antioxidant. Do these things and you will have less acne.

I second that. I used to have a few blemishes that would bother me - not massive breakouts but it affected my confidence. I stumbled across acne.org and the ClearSkin Regimen 18 months ago and haven’t looked back since.

Within 3 weeks of using the 2.5% benzoyl peroxide cream my spots cleared up completely. I haven’t had a breakout since.

Great advice thal. If your looking for fiber try the following cereal. Fiber One.

Yeah I have tried all strengths and while it can reduce the amount by maybe one pimple, that is about it.

Great advice, for sure.

I just have to put it into practise, easier said then done as I am addicted to fast food. I swear they put crap in their to make you crave it.

Thanks for the advice.

I’m 26 now and my skin just cleared up about a year ago. I also believe diet is very important. I could control my acne with one food alone. Carrots. If I had something coming up where I wanted all my acne gone, I would eat a bag of baby carrots over a day or two. I would take a few days to notice the results, but never failed me. It must be the very high Vitamin A and the fiber. I can eat almost anything I want now (Fast Food maybe once a week). I just got into the habit of eating carrots almost everyday. There really good for you anyway. Give it a try. I was just about the only thing that worked for me.
