Frenulum breve

Frenulum breve

Well today I had my first physical in ~ 7 years. I talked to my doctor about giving me a referal to a urologist because I have a slight frenulum breve. My frenulum (i.e. the bowsting of foreskin that is anchored on the underside of the glans) is a bit short and although my foreskin retracts fully from the glans when erect, the skin doesn’t become flush with the shaft, but stays bunched up. This causes some nuisence when wearing condoms because my foreskin folds on itself and half covers my glans while making penetration slightly uncomfortable in that condition.

I want to know if any of you guys have had this problem and if so, how you fixed it. I remember long ago finding info on people simply stretching the skin using some sort of topical steroid cream to make the skin stretchy and then regularly stretching it much like manual stretches. I also know there are a couple of surgical (if they can be called that) solutions short of circumcision to fix this. Frenuloplasty and z-plasty. This would be the quick and most likely most efficient solution, but I am definitely iffy about having a scalpel near my dick… not to mention that other than the previously mentioned problem, I love my frenulum, it is very sensitive, and very integral to pleasure, so I don’t want it to be simply removed.

I have kind of wandered off, but do you guys have any thoughts about how I should approach this with the urologist? Have any of you undergone a frenuloplasty and if so, how much of your frenulum remained? Was there a permanent scar? Did your foreskin/sensations feel the same?

P.S. I chose my doctor recently and for the first time chose a woman doctor. For the first time in my life, the testicular exam was pleasant, and she even talked to me about my “problem” and recommended a urologist that isn’t quick with the knife, she seemed very concerned that some of the other urologists at the hospital were quick to cut and ask questions later, I sure appreciated that.

The ointment is Betamethasone. Give it 3 to 6 months of stretching every morning and night in bed plus with each trip to the toilet.

Surgery doesn’t have to amputate anything to give relief.

Good luck,

Scalpel sucks, I had frenulum surgery and I assure you that as far as I’m concerned, there is a lot of people unhappy with the effects (with classical treatments - z-plasty, scalpel, stitches etc.). However, you can have surgery without scalpel, blood, stitches, scars and all of that - just find a doctor that will use electric knife, of course if you decide to do that.

I think that’s the procedure I had - Fraenulum praeputii frenulum breve taboos. frenulum and foreskin problems, frenulum and male initiation - Hernaez Manrique, et al,Elongación del frenillo balanoprepucial con una técnica muy sencilla

The doctor basically took electric knife and sliced it, the whole procedure took about 10 seconds ("Are you sure you want to do that, it’s not that short? - Yeah - bzzzt - done"). There are no scars, a little bit of bleeding, but everything healed after 1-3 days. This is heaven compared to scalpel and 10 stitches, bleeding because of morning wood and staff like that - really.

As far as loss of sensation goes - it’s hard to judge. I don’t think I have any major loss of sensation, maybe no loss at all, blowjob feels as good as before (-: In my opinion even if you’ll have slight loss of sensation, not stretching frenulum while having sex will outweigh it.

You can also try stretching with betamethasone, but frenulum can be pretty stubborn, so you have to take that into account.

Thanks for the input guys. I did some further research and I believe the procedure that I like the most is “tying up the frenulum” where a needle with surgical thread is pierced a little behind where the frenulum ends, and then the surgical thread is knotted tightly around the little bit of skin it now separates. After a couple of days, the thread falls off after having “cut” through a bit of skin. The people that have had it done report no bleeding, almost no scarring, and the quickest recovery of any of the procedures I’ve seen so far. You can also do it several times instead of just once to get just the right ammount instead of too much.

My urologist appointment is in 2 days, and I will ask for this procedure. I have decided that I definitely do not want a z-plasty or a frenuloplasty, I don’t want my whole frenulum gone, JUST enough to allow full, free retraction of the foreskin all the way back over the shaft.

Well, I did get get my frenulum tied, and yesterday the stitch finally came off. It is definitely looser, but I think it only did half the job :( I can definitely retract my foreskin farther back along the shaft than before, but it is still bunched, and now there is a very tight feeling when I stretch my frenulum, I think its current condition is more prone to tearing htan it was before the procedure. I am going to the hospital again this friday to get a second tying.

Hopefully the second one will be the last, though I am a bit worried because there is a large-ish blood vessle right through the part that needs to be cut. The first tying cut off one small blood vessel and now there is a hard vein in the tip of my penis, but the doctor says it should go away after a while.

What surprised me the most was that it was essentially painless. They gave me 2 shots of lidocaine in the foreskin under the glans and it puffed up, then I felt nothing as the needle and thread went through and there was essentially no pain after until I had to tear it in the end (the stitch had gotten loose but the connnecting tissue was white and dead, no pain. The only pain came when I finally separated the frenulum 5 days after the procedure.

Did you get your second tying done? What’s the results like? Are you still able to PE without problems?

I’ve recently realised I suffer from frenulum breve, it’s making all length related PE fucking troublesome to accomplish.

I hope you’ll invest a few months into stretching with steroidal ointment before considering surgery.

Good Luck.

Yeah I don’t want surgery. I don’t even want some doctor examining my penis lol, that should be reserved for me and my lady friends only.

I’m plenty motivated to stretch it manually, though it is a bit of a bitch, I can just do it watching TV or whatever.

I don’t know where I can steroid creams though, do they sell them in chemists? Would a doctor give me a prescription? If not do you know of any online sources?

It’s a prescription deal. What you always hear about for preputial and frenular stretching is Betamethasone in 0.5% to 1%. Just tell your doctor you’re trying to stretch your frenulum to see if you can avoid surgery and you’ve heard Betamethasone could help. Hopefully s/he won’t resent you for acting like a know-it-all.

finally! I’ve found someone with the exact same problem as me :)
I’m trying my best to do stretches and hoping It will work out for me.
If not?! Than I will visit my doctor one day and tell him whats wrong.

Richard how is your penis now? I’m going crazy by condoms not being able to slide on normally and even more problems.

Guys I can just say 1 thing.. GO SEE A DOCTOR/UROLOGIST! I used to have a very short frenulum. This had never really bothered me, even though sometimes it felt tight when going erect (being uncut).

All of a sudden one day while having rough sex, I felt a sharp pain at the bottom of my penis and I had blood on my dick. At first I thought it came from her but after taking a shower I saw a small hole in the middle of my frenulum. It became very painful to have an erection so I went to see my doctor. It turned out I had ruptured my frenulum and had to see an urologist.

The urologist told me I had been very lucky as there are LOTS of veins in that area and usually when someone rips his frenulum, it’s paired with massive blood loss flowing from your dick! (I’m pretty sure you don’t want this;) ) All it took to fix it was a small procedure to elongate my frenulum. I got a needle in my penis head (!FEELS HORRIBLE!) to numb it locally.. He then cut my frenulum with his scalpel (didn’t feel a thing), and used some sort of special stitching to keep it from retracting again, forcing it to heal in the elongated state. This added about 3cm (1,2inch) to my frenulum. It took about a week to heal (and the stitches to dissolve) and about another weak or 2 to feel like normal again.

I haven’t had any issues with it since, and it feels normal. You can see some kind of scar tissue where he cut the frenulum but it’s very minor and doesn’t look strange.

If you think your frenulum is a bit short, I’d say it would be wise to have it looked at. It might be wise to have pre-emptive frenulum elongation, before you rip it for real!

THANKS for that first-hand account of your successful frenuloplasty. Where was your doctor trained?

No problem, always good to help ;)

I have no idea, at least not in America since I’m from Europe.

So where are you suppost to put this cream? Do you roll back the foreskin and apply it right to the frenulum? and what happens if the cream gets all over the head of the penis when the foreskin covers the head? Any suggestions, pic’s
