How easy is it to get prescribed SSRI's

I suffer from premature ejaculation, and from what I’ve read on this forum SSRI’s are very effective at helping this problem and I want to give them a go. I do not see them as “The Solution” but if I get on them I want to condition myself to last longer so that when I come off them I’ll be cured.

Should I go to the doctor and tell him this? Or should I make out that I’m depressed and that I need them for depression?

Thx

Just do 300 kegels a day.and make sure you relax during sex, the number one thing is to relax.start telling your self dam, “I wish I could cum rather than, “dam I hope I don’t cum”

I guess it would depend on the doctor.

Kegels don’t work. They made Pre ejac worse

I agree. I never got anything beneficial from kegels. Maybe it’s just me.

SSRI’s and their younger cousins can be a god send for people suffering from clinical depression but are not without risks. Often the doc’s prescribing them are woefully undereducated about just how big the risks are. Something patients are often told is that if one drug doesn’t produce the desired effect you will simply go off of it and wait until your biochemistry re-sets to baseline. What they don’t mention is that your brain chemistry may have been permanently altered and it will reset to a new base line.

No matter why you are taking a drug always do your own homework.
These two are from page one of a Google for SSRI’s.

You can shop most anti-depressants online as well. Some places will require a prescription, (which most will supply for a "consulting fee"), but others will not.

Bupropion - Wikipedia
Bupropion is sold as Wellbutrin for depression and as Zyban to help stop smoking. bupropion is the drug of choice among psychiatrists for the treatment of serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) induced sexual dysfunction. Interestingly they go on to say that: bupropion does not affect any measures of sexual functioning in healthy males.

I know a few guys that have been on it for depression and more than a few that took it to quite smoking. Just under half of them reported, (Yes, I asked.), a delay in ejaculation whilst on the drug. A few reported inhibited ejaculation to the point that they simply couldn’t cum at all.

Upside to Bupropion:
Avoid most of the rather common & nasty side effects associated with SSRI’s.
Quit smoking and loose weight at the same time!
You could get it from a Doc for smoking cessation rather than depression.

Downside:
High rate of significant interactions with other drugs.
More likely to precipitate seizures than most anti-depressants.

It takes about six months of doing them before they start to help at first they made me cum faster also.

I haven't failed, I've found 10,000 ways that don't work. Thomas Edison (1847-1931)

I am taking a low dose of paxil (10mg) which is half of the minimal dosage for clinical depression. My doctor wouldn’t prescribe it to me because he said the side-effects are too much. At first, I felt a bit tired, lost a little appetite, got drunk easier, and felt a bit blah. These effects only lasted a week or two at best, and now I have almost zero side-effects from it, although a higher dose might cause some. I have been on it for ten weeks now. I now can last as long as I want, and the only lasting side effect is getting drunk faster, but I just save money on alcohol that way. My appetite isn’t quite what it used to be, but for some people that might be considered a good thing. I have noticed my mood has improved (never was depressed, but it still feels good) and the erections haven’t been effected at all.

I share your general caution about experimenting with drugs, but do you have any links to evidence that the brain is (or can be) permanently changed after stopping SSRIs?

I used to. I will take a look tomorrow and see what I can dig up.

I’m asking because I always thought one of the downsides of SSRIs, compared to psychotherapy, was that the effects — good ones included, for those who suffer depression — are pretty much totally reversed upon cessation of the drug. (Hence all the people on SSRIs for 10+ years to ward off recurrence of mental health problems.) Although I suppose if an SSRI makes a person happier and more social, he or she might build up a better life (work, social activities, etc.) that could continue to support better mental health even after stopping the drug.

Hey guys, I’ve been on Citalporam for best part of 2 years, I get side effects with most drugs. I have been on 20mg for some time.

I have had a ferocious libido since being a kid, but this wiped that out. I am stressed and have been depressed for some time. Anyway. Could barely get an erection, and I can go for hours but never get to the end. This stuff is great if you are depressed, but don’t take it otherwise.

I have now reduced my drugs to 10mg, and have seen my libido return (41 now) take the advice from people here about mind over matter and exercises, but don’t take the pills, they are not the cure.

Have you ever mentioned your loss of libido and erectile fuction to your doctor? There are prescriptions to fix that. For premature ejaculation, the dose you should use is quite lower than what is prescribed for clinical depression, so you would be less likely to experience side effects.

It’s too easy to get prescribed SSRIs in my opinion. Tell a shrink you are a little blue or practically anything for that matter and they’ll whip out their pen that says zoloft on it, clipboard that says prozac on it, write you a prescription for Lexapro, look at the clock on the wall that says Paxil on it, and out you go with an SSRI script.

I was treated for ADD all throughout college and for some time afterwards and it seemed like every doctor I went to see for that would also try to foist an SSRI on me. I actually took them for a couple years and thought I’d just lost my libido from lowering T or something — had a numb limp dick for like 3 years — didn’t realize it’d been the damn SSRIs until after I told a doctor I refused to take any more SSRIs
