yes, although my glucose was higher than usual it was still considered normal. I asked the same question and the doctor completely ruled it out.

I have no idea at all about all this stuff. But, don’t you work/run a vigorous job? Some types of people can hold up against stress for the longest of times. Could you be run down from it and have some form of depression? Maybe the long lasting persistent Dysthymic Disorder? It usually is a slow form of shit that is supposed to be on a person for 2 years. Now, I don’t know if you can attribute anything like that over such a length of time. Maybe the stress of your work and such has had cortisol run wild on you and beat you down?

I am just speculating and trying to think out of the box on this one. Is andropause accompanied by a depressive burst? Could both things be working you over together?

Hope you feel better and get this all solved.

This stuff is all “new” to me. It makes sense, but glands are a complicated thing. I take it that you are better off “cycling” whatever hormone they give you? Would an endocrinologist do that, or just give you something that you take “regularly” (like daily or whatever) and it messes you up later on? Has anyone here gone the endocrinologist route?

If my doctor didn’t respond favorably to me I was going to ask to be referred to an endo guy right away. I am so serious about the way I feel right now that I was willing to switch primary care physicians even after an 8 year relationship. NO was not an option for me today at all.

And really I want natural hormone replacement therapy not synthetic hormone replacement therapy. I have read quite a bit and your body metabolizes the natural stuff much better than the synthetic, duh!! I have been looking into bioidentical HRT and what she prescribed me today is a natural form HRT.

Excellent thought tt and certainly if you looked hard enough you could link the two. Its the chicken or the egg? Many hormone deficiencies include depression as a symptom and certainly those who are diagnosed with depression have lethargy, foggy thinking, weight gain, lack of sex drive as component symptoms. Certainly cortisol has something to do with weight gain, stress effects cortisol levels. And yes the last year of my life has been more stressful than any other I can remember with my office being damaged and closed from the hurricanes for a couple of months (i.e. NO INCOME), my homes damaged from the storms, the better part of a month without electricity, etc etc etc.

t, I wish I had a very clear answer, I dont. I know how I feel (which is shitty) and I know I have a couple of blood tests to back up my symptoms. I was practically elated about a diagnosis today, just so I didnt think I was losing my mind being told there was nothing wrong.

I am going to try this for a few months and test the results. I am going to have my blood tested once a month to keep track of the progress. Hopefully all will go well.

I’m probably preaching to the choir here, but Testosterone is the greatest gift to the male that can be given. It is the master male hormone. The benefits are fucking endless. I also was recently in for T tests. I had a 540 total T level and my free T was in the high 200’s I believe. After cycling DHEA and Tongkat Ali, coupled with intense weight lifting for a few weeks, I noticed the following improvements.

1) Massive increase in strength in stamina. I’m down to 209 pounds, and I can take 100 pound dumbbells on each hand on my 4th set in with minor fatigue, and bench press them 10 times without stopping or breaking a sweat.

2) T levels have increased. I have not been in yet for hormone testing, but my hair is growing like mad, grey hairs count is down, facial hair is coming in more also. Chest and body hair are coming in, better tone in my face.

3) Pain Tolerance is off the charts. Before I would get minor aches and or fatigue after weights. The other day, I was playing football and crashed into a tree almost full force. I got up in 10 seconds without dizziness. Thank you Testosterone!

4) Mental Clarity. My programming setup time reduction, typing speed, and problem solving has increased also.

Hobby is on the right track. Check your free and total T levels. Get your total T levels in the 500’s at the minimum, and even higher than that. Free T levels should be in 300’s for starters. Jack this up as high as possible. Save your money on Big Pharma and such. They don’t appreciate nor fully understand what a blessing and a physical armor and lifeforce that Testosterone is.

S&G,

I hate the thought of giving the pharmacuetical companies any more money but I am going to give this a try.

Is DHEA available over the counter? Is tongkat ali available at a health food store? How quickly did you notice a difference?

At first I was a little embarassed because I felt it may me look like less of a man to admit that I was having little or no sexual desire not to mention all the other symptoms. All you have to do is say your on testosterone therapy and you envision a guy not being able to get it up. Like I said I was more than a little embarassed.

I would ask everyone in your family of descent, if they have any unspoken histories of depression etc…. I have a maternal grandmother who passed away about 10 years ago, she was institutionalized with electroshock after her one daughter died as kid. Before that she had some type of sever post-partum blues with that same kid before all this psychiatric stuff come into vogue with explanations.

I had to do a family tree for my one psych class using Bowen Family Dynamic theory to explain anything even if it didn’t pop up on my generation. I do remember that a few members of your family had some addictions problems that you posted about. Some addictions psych people like to claim that there is always an underlying issue which assists the addiction.

Perhaps you could be a workaholic and you just don’t have a adequate coping methodology to your latest situations. Try and get a fresh perspective from a trusted friend or family member and maybe they could spot any trouble areas that you may have or not. Ask them how they see your situation.

I know you mentioned you were dirt poor as a kid, maybe the possibility of going broke put a severe mental beat-down on you. I would also think that the andropause and possible depression could be two different storms at sea which have merged into your “type 5 life fucks you in the ass” storm. This would be a situational aggravation to compound if you did have a biological and our mental causation.

Keep posting, we are all here for you.

You are not less of a man. It is a natural occurrence as we age that T levels fall, starting after age 18. We just need to do more maintenance, that’s all. The same goes with growth hormone and other areas of our body. By the way, I’m 28 years old, so I cannot speak like an expert at your age of what may happen to me, but I have noticed a significant difference at this age.

DHEA at Jewel and local pharmacies is like 10 bucks a bottle for generic stuff. For Tongkat ali, the only two products I suggest are from Malaysia or REDKAT. You can get it cheap on the Internet.

Malaysian Tongkat Ali

If I were you, I would ask for a consult with an endochrinologist. If your doctor sees your T levels as normal (they are in the range but so very barely), your doctor is not the one to be in charge of your TRT, if that is what you go for. Let her manage the glucose/cholesterol. She is correct to make that the priority as diabetes is the threat as she sees it. A good way to see it.

What is a very common reaction to TRT (testosterone replacement therapy) is the Roller Coaster Effect. You do replacement for a couple or a few weeks; feel remarkably better; then go into a slump, feeling like crap again until the next hormonal rebound. OK for some, but ideally you need to try for an even ride. A good endochrinologist can work with your regular MD/Internist in making sure you get a smooth ride out of this, they treating everything together.

Ask for a full hormonal panel. T readings by themselves reveal little.

Your PSA is terrific. You need to follow up annually with further PSA tests, now having a base read to work from.

You and Mrs 789 have had a year of medical adventures. She turned out well. You will, too. If what you have said about Mrs 7 is accurate, she will have no trouble supporting you in this. This is not about sexual attraction, it is about body chemistry. The key is finding the right “managers” for your chemistry.

You could be absolutely right about not be able to adequately cope. And yes you have a good memory about being dirt poor etc putting me in a shit storm. I laughed my ass off at “type 5 life fucks you in the ass” storm. That is so true.

789,

I truly feel for you. I thought only women went through this crap. I’m just now being tested for all the hormone/pre-menopausal stuff. I can’t stand it. You definitely have to keep on top of your doctors. They don’t know your body like you do as you’ve found out. Plus the health system in general isn’t much help. I just had a mammogram, pelvic ultrasound and blood work up the yingyang. All was to go to the ob/gyn and cc of the blood work to my dermatologist. I never heard a thing from my ob/gyn but my dermatologist wants to see me for an cyst on my ovary. Nice, huh? So, now I’m in the process of trying to get the correct information to the intended recipient. It’s been a month since my testing and I have a PPO!!

You’re a strong guy and will get to the bottom of it all. Just hang in there. I know it’s depressing as hell knowing you’re not yourself.

PS Maybe a mini vacation would help ;)

I intend to right away. I was just so happy that she agreed with me that I just ran the hell out of there. I will get my real thoughts together and re-approach her to send me to an endo. Even is she agrees tomorrow, it will probably take months to get an appointment anyway.

I know my PSA is good but it is up 1/2 of 1% since last year.

Should I expect to be on a rollercoaster?

>Should I expect to be on a rollercoaster?

Not if you can find a good, knowledgeable doctor willing to make adjustments as needed until everything stays relatively stable. Finding a good HRT doc isn’t easy. Read the stickies in that MESO-Rx forum linked above. They have one on selecting a doctor.

More frequent blood checks than would “normally happen” in “normal” medical care will give you a more accurate read on where you are most times, allowing you to avoid the roller coaster effect. Endos know this and keep a closer track, so to say.
