Hey guys, I’m wondering if anyone out there has enough of a medical background to answer a couple of questions for me and potentially alleviate my worry.

My problem seems to be frequent urinary tract infections, which, so I’ve heard is fairly uncommon for guys. I’m a pretty clean person and the doctor even recently prescribed me a cream to apply to keep everything super-clean down there. In the last few months I’ve developed flank pain, on first my right side, and now both left and right. I’ve had a recent blood test which showed that my creatinine blood levels were low (a good thing) but still this dull ache persists even when I don’t have a UTI. Any ideas? Anyone had anything similar?

Hey Sophmoric, I think you should try to see a specialist about this. A urologist could probably help, but there are actually (and don’t laugh) gyno docs that might be able to help as well.

I had a girlfriend who had constant UTI’s that ended up leading to painful sex all the time. Even after going to several general practitioners and an OBGYN or 2, nobody could give her any help. She had to go to a sex specialist who I think ended up helping her stop the UTI’s with this drug that changes the PH of your urinary tract. I don’t remember what it’s called, but I do know it makes your piss come out blue. Seriously. But it works.

Unsweeted pure cranberry juice changes the Ph in the bladder and thus urinary tract as well. Try a formula of 2/3 water and 1/3 pure cranberry juice in the morning right when you arise and another glass before bedtime. This is a cheap way to accomplish what Scienceguy is recommending. I believe he is correct.

I had similar symptoms about 18 months ago; turned out to be a kidney stone. Very nasty and very painful. As ever, seek the advice of a doctor who will, if necessary, refer you to a urologist.

I read this once, and seemed credible, but I’ve never tried it.

I don’t know if you have this over across the pond, but if you do, give it a try. Kidney stones are another matter. An old fashioned aid for kidney stones is drinking Classic Coke, pop the top and let the “fizz” go flat. Google kidney stones+Coca Cola.

Regardless, you should absolutely see a Doctor to get it evaluated.

Don’t assume that, just get some Alka-Seltzer if they have it over there.

Hey there buddy sorry to hear your having trouble. I recently was diagnosed with a kidney infection from an undiagnosed uti that went to my kidneys. I’m also an emt, I ended up diagnosing my symptoms at my house and went straight to the er. How long have you had this flank pain? Are you having any other symptoms? I.e. Pain on urination, stinky pee, fever chills? Iy probly won’t be kidney stones that’s usually only on one side and it feels like a knife not dull and achey pain. If you have frequent utis this could defenatly be the cause.
