"And btw, It’s official, in Europe, that Propecia can cause permanent erectile dysfunction that persists even after the treatment has been discontinued. A special investigation by the Swedish Medical Products Agency completed this study and so the Prescription Information was changed."I live in Europe and have used Finasteride for 2 years without any side effects, so a statement like this obviously concerns me. Could you please provide a link to the source of this research? I have an excellent (female) doctor who prescribed this drug only after much reading and research; so she would be most concerned to learn that there is a serious concern within the medical community about long term major side effects with this drug.
If you’ve been on fin for two years without any side effects, you’re probably safe as your body can deal with the drug. Anyways Here is the conclusion from the MPA: http://www.lake medelsverket.se … tad-behandling/ (it’s in Swedish)
Basically the investigation was done so Merck Sharp & Dohme had to change the Prescription Information on their finasteride products, in Europe.
New Prescription Information:
The most important changes:
* Persistent difficulty having an erection after discontinuation of treatment.
* Infertility has been reported in men who took finasteride for long time and had other risk factors that may affect fertility. Normalisation or improvement of seminal quality has been reported after discontinuation of finasteride. Long-term clinical studies about the effect of finasteride on fertility in men have not been conducted.
Since the Swedish Medical Products Agency is the organization within Europe that is assigned to monitor the safety of Propecia, the text in the new Prescription Information is valid for all European countries.
Well, it’s just to spread more awareness towards new users that might try finasteride.
Another note on this, more doctors are getting informed about this problem, in the U.S as well, despite the safety assured by the FDA:
