Lingam, I don’t know where you are from, but if you are in the UK, drop into your local FPA (Family Planning Assoc.) and pick up their range of leaflets on every Sexually Transmitted Infection. These tell you how each infection can be passed on and what you can do to prevent it.
Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea are both bacterial and can live in the cells of the cervix, the urethra, rectum and also sometimes in the throat and eyes. They can be spread from penetrative sex (vaginal or anal), but also from oral sex and sharing sex toys.
Chlamydia is becoming a major problem in the UK, especially among the younger people, and Gonorrhoea is making a comeback. Approximately 50% of all women will have no symptoms with either of these infections and may not know they have them. Both are easily treated with anti-biotics, but can have unpleasant consequences if not caught early.
If you have unprotected sex of any kind with an unknown partner, get tested at your local Gum Clinic (Genitourinary Clinic). If you are in UK, it’s free and gives you peace of mind.
Personally, I’ve just had a year of rank stupidity. I get my test results later this week. To me ‘the glass is always half full’, but to be honest I’m as nervous as an ice-cream held by a 3 year old! I agree with Jordan that life involves risk. I have always loved the thrill of risk in everything I do, but I’m going to be Mr. Safe with sex now, regardless of the results of the tests. At 38 I think I’m learning.
