XanaX same effect as Paxil

Does anyone know if Xanax has the same effect as Paxil? Does it mess with your sex drive? What I mean is.. Does it do the same effect as to keep you from cumming while having sex.

No. They’re quite different.

Xanax, Alprazolam, is a Benzodiazepine, the same family of drugs that Librium (Chlordiazepoxid) and Valium (Diazepam) belong to. These are known as Minor Tranquilizers, psicotropic, anxiolitic drugs, as opposed to strong Major Tranquilizer (Neuroleptic) antipsicotic drugs (Haloperidol, Thorazine, i.e.). Their sedative effects resemble those of barbiturates.

Paxil, is an antidrepressant drugs. Belongs to the “new” family of SSRI’s (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors) which mechanism of action is by blocking Serotonin (5HT-Serotonin, especially) reuptake by neurons in the Synapsis. These became very popular after the first drug of these family, Prozac (Fluoxetine), was made available in the 80’s.

Although they are absolutely different drugs, with totally different mechanisms of action, different effects and bear different consequences from its use, they both provide some degree of anxiolitic effects.

One important difference: While Paxil is an antidepressant, Xanax has depressive effects, it can even worsen depression.

Xanax has immediate effects and a halflife rather short. Paxil will take several weeks for its effects to set on and its halflife is long.

Withdrawal symptoms are much stronger from Xanax than Paxil.

From a sexual health point of view, Paxil will retard ejaculation and even cause anorgasmia even at therapeuthic dosages. Abuse of Xanax has the potential to cause ED.

Greatly informative post there, I personally have used both, actually abused benzodiazepines in my past, and they will definitely give you the limp noodle. If taken in normal human being doses though it really shouldn’t be much problem. However my experience with paxil , which made me feel terrific, made it so difficult to have an orgasm, I could not even masturbate to orgasm usually, arm started hurting, just too much trouble. But I still had my normal sex drive, and most of my lady friends didn’t have much problem with me lasting 2 or 3 hours
