I’m the same too, I have a fair amount of skin connected to just beyond the midpoint of the shaft. I find the best way to work round this is to make the second grip around half-way along the shaft, then slide back towards the sac (without squeezing!) to slide all the skin back, then grip and jelq. Takes a bit of practise but becomes second nature in time.

I’m sure this is common too; remember, you normally should be trying to jelq at/above 50% erect. Try getting slightly more erect first. Also, I stretch before I jelq in order to maximise my accessible shaft length, plus I grip as close to my body as possible (also assisted by the aforementioned slide-the-skin approach). Plus, for me I stretch at the end of each jelq stroke to keep the accessible length maximised.
Stick with it, I think I can honestly say it has taken me at least a couple of months to work out how to jelq effectively and no doubt I’ll improve my technique further in the future.
