That’s not noob question at all. I can’t say if i do that right too. Basically, there are few levels of intensity and different aims, moreover there are wet and dry jelqs. For example, we can do jelq for length. Some slight slide to push a bit more blood and when you are under plumped glans, just grip that a bit and do little stretch. Even easier with 2 hands. One for jelq, one for stretching and this is very pleasant. Just keep it in low intensity. But for girth we need to rub inner chambers. I guess correct hold for that is when you do most of pressure on sides. So you get mid or tight hold and push that. It’s significantly stronger intensity and with strong erection it becomes easy to get injury. There are versions without such strong grip, but with holding. For example, wet jelq is often made without hand release. You push with one hand, then grip at base with other and do that in cycle. Another option is to do kegels during hand switch. Such way you can hold most of blood and don’t need so much strong grip to get expanded penis.
It’s really very variable. I guess we should look at our erection to see if we harm or improve, and at size after some time if that makes any gains.
