Doctors and PE

Thunders Place now has 35,000 members, so surely statistically there must be at least one doctor amongst us, maybe even a urologist. I am very interested to find out what the medical profession says about PE. Does anyone here have a friend that is a doctor that they have asked about PE or know a doctor who does PE themselves.

There are at least three members who have posted that they are physicians and I suspect two others because of the way they write. :) There are probably more. We also have several nurses who have posted about their profession. I know of one member who’s partner is a physician. There have also been posts by members who have talked to their doctors about PE and reported their reaction here.

I think the main reasons doctors are often so negative is they haven’t done thorough research into the techniques. They often can only spend 5 minutes with you due to controlled costs. Imagine if you are an uneducated doctor and your patient says: “Hey doc, I found this website that says I can increase the size of my penis with exercises.” What would you say? ;) Would you even have time to check out what he said? 99% of physicians probably don’t.

Doctors and PE

From the British Medical Journal, September 2004:

In response to a the question, ‘Can a man increase the size of his penis?’ A urologist wrote:

I presume you are asking about increasing the size of the erect phallus, rather than asking about erectile dysfunction.

It is possible to surgically increase the size of an erect (and flaccid, for that matter) penis, but it should not be undertaken lightly, as it is by no means guaranteed to produce the result one might be hoping for.

Length can be added by division of the penile suspensory ligament that tethers the penis to the pubic arch. This sounds like a simple solution, but remember the ligament was there for a reason. Dividing it will allow the penis to fall away from the pubis, giving some length (a couple of centimetres), but at a loss of the normal “angle” at erection. Also, this does not lengthen the skin, and so the peri-penile pubic skin is often pulled onto the shaft of the penis, resulting in pubic hair growing from the penile shaft.

Another surgical technique is “enhancement” of penile girth by the injection of harvested adipose tissue (fat) from elsewhere. This has significant risks of resulting in uneven, lumpy appearance, and patient satisfaction is not assured.

What is important to remember is that there is wide natural variation in penile size, as in height, weight, and many other human physical characteristics. Thus, what may seem small is probably normal. Surgery is fraught with uncertainties about results, and like other forms of medically “unnecessary” cosmetic surgery, people often have unrealistic expectations, and are disappointed as a result.

Oh, and don’t believe any ads found in the back of top shelf publications, or try any “DIY” methods. They don’t work. I have spent the odd night in A+E trying to undo these “efforts”; it is embarrassing for the patient, and their penis is never larger, once the pain and swelling has subsided.

Again from the BMJ, a Plastic surgeon then writes in March 2005,

The author quite rightly points out the most common methods of penis enlargement. Not an entirely uncommon request of the Plastic Surgeon is the patient requesting a larger penis. There is only method by which a true increase in size (as opposed to the apparent lengthening achieved through division of the suspensory ligament) can be achieved and that is through the use of tissue expansion.

Currently this is achieved by way of a Danish invention which is strapped onto ‘the subject’ for a number of months, known as the Jes-extender.It is claimed to increase penis size by upto 5cm.

By Penitrant:

Orthopaedic surgeons and plastic surgeons have been using various tissue extension techniques for years to lengthen limbs after fracture and stretch skin pedicles in reconstructive surgery. Why this pedicle should be any different from the rest of the body is hard to understand.

I’m surprised we haven’t had a few doctors come here and slam the very idea of PE. Or perhaps we have and I missed that episode(?).

Remember that the medical world is a huge arena, and people specialise in minutae. I went into hospital a couple of weeks back for an x-ray on a joint, and I started talking casually to the nurse about the injury she was talking snapshots of. She said she didn’t know what was wrong with it, but it just didn’t look right (even though she takes x-rays of them every day). The difference was a gap of about 3 1/2” between two bones where there should have been probably 1/2” So her area of expertise was very close to the injury site in one sense, but in a whole different league. In contrast, when I got the injury (in Italy), the person who took the x-ray was the person who also diagnosed my condition, the grade and the treatment, so it’s not the same everywhere.

If you move onto something like PE which isn’t even a medical specialisation, I’m not surprised that the topic is met with skepticism. Most ligament/collagen tissue practises are geared toward reducing laxity, or at most recovering lost range of movement. Growth rarely comes into it.

Indeed! We at TP really are pioneers, believe it or not. Regardless of what we think of the idea, someday, not very far off, I’d imagine, PE is going to be mainstream. At least, it will be much more mainstream than it is now. Once the business community really catches on, the cat will be out of the bag.

It already has caught on. Only, it’s mostly the scam artists that are trying to cash in at present (penis pills and the like). But there are already some sizable companies getting into things (PM, Jes Extender, etc.). Wait till Johnston & Johnston, or some similarly large corporation, get into the act and throw a massive amount of resources, monetary and otherwise, into the research and technology of PE. All these companies have to do is smell a profit. And what could be more profitable than enabling men to grow their penises?
