Gotta disagree there. The "experts" will get you in trouble every time. There is no danger in exercising on an empty stomach( unless you are hypoglycemic) and it improves your bodies ability to mobilize fat stores.

These guys come up with new theories all the time, each disagreeing with the previous one. I exercise "best" on an empty stomach, and I lean out the easiest that way…and thats from experience. You only need food in your stomach if you have sent your insulin levels soaring (carbs and sugar) which blocks fat from being converted to glucose. If your insulin is stable, the body mobilizes its fats stores for energy.

Ok getting off the subject a little guys, I want to know more about decreasing the fat pad, not overall. There has to be an exercise, give me a break, you can be a 300lb man with ripped shoulders if you want. There has to be an isolation exercise, or maybe use one of those shock therapy ab devices you see on TV but put it on your fat pad? Maybe it will tense the muscle down there? Or is there even a muscle to tense?

sjvids: There is no such thing as targeted fat loss. Your body will burn fat from where ever its genes tell it to no matter what part of the body you exercise. For the average man, the greatest fat storage area is the abdomen.

Working your arms so they’re bulging hams? You’re primarily burning fat from your abdomen.

Working your legs by running, swimming, riding, lifting? You’re primarily burning fat from your abdomen.

Doing cardio? You’re burning fat primarily from your abdomen.

If you have fat thighs, all the leg exercises in the world won’t make you lose fat in your thighs unless you burn more calories then you take in. Then you will lose fat, but NOT necessarily from your thighs first. Usually fat loss occurs as an even process. You lose fat from all over the body in a proportionate percentage. If you have 3% fat in your chin and 50% in your abdomen means if you burn 1000 fat calories then 500 of that will come from abdomen fat but only 30 calories of fat from your chin.

Privileged fat will burn to a point but won’t after that point until the body has no other choice because there is no other fat to burn.

You cannot target fat loss. It’s not in your control. You can target muscle groups to build, but not fat.

Nearly every man has a genetic disposition to keep fat on the pubis, the buttocks, and the abdomen. Women also include the breasts, hips, and thighs, but usually do not build fat on the abdomen as much as men do. Genetics dictate if you’re an apple (fat in the waist) or a pear (fat in the hips and thighs). Men are usually apples, women usually pears, but not always. Where your body burns fat from is also genetically determined but again, privileged fat areas are always last. Nearly everyone has privileged fat. It’s genetic and if you have it, there’s nothing you can do about it except to get your body fat index down low enough to burn it, however, the point where that happens is nearly impossible to maintain because it’s below what’s considered a healthy BMI (body mass index). Again, this is for most people. A few lucky people out there can have perfect bodies with very little fat and yet they have healthy BMIs. That’s the luck of the genetics draw. Console yourself with the fact that in a famine you’d have a better chance to live and they’d be dead.

I guess that’s why I agree with the “experts”. From my personal experience working out on an empty stomach leads to piss poor workouts. 45 minutes or so before a workout, I have at least a yogurt or a banana. If I eat too much, that hinders me also. I encourage everybody who exercises to keep a workout log. I would be willing to bet working out on an empty stomach makes you feel like you are getting a more intense workout because you feel more worn out, however, your log will say otherwise. I am one of the few that logs my workouts (actually I stopped about a year and a half ago). It’s amazing how blind you really are about your body when you don’t do that.

At any rate, if you feel it works for you, that’s great. Keep doing it! If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

Sjvids, I don’t think you are understanding what the fellas are saying. Your body stores fat in certain areas first! Your body also places it in critical areas for protection. Your shoulders are not one of those areas!

Try this experiment: Eat 6000 calories a day but make sure you do absolutely nothing all day except all the situps/crunches you can handle. After 6 months, tell me where your body stored the extra fat.

OK, how about every other time?

I’m old enough to have see the “experts” change their position to its opposite every few years. Find what works for you and believe what you experience.

Please don’t anyone here hate on me, but I remembered from a while ago DLD posted some magical fat pad exercise. Click the link below to see… I haven’t read the thread or anything or know if it works, but I just remembered like I said he came up with this (don’t really believe much in it since spot reduction in fat seems to be impossible unless you go under surgery according to most experts).
