Girth measurement in Kinsey study

Hi,

I recognised that in all references to the Kinsey study it says that girth measurement was done mid-shaft. I think that’s wrong. Actually it was done “at the point of maximum circumference”. You can find this citation in “The Kinsey data: marginal tabulations of the 1938-1963 interviews conducted by the Institute for Sex Research” by Paul H. Gebhard, Alan B. Johnson and Alfred Charles Kinsey on page 120.

There is also a difference made between white college and non-college as well as black.

Yep I agree. We customarily do mid-shaft here, which sometimes is the same as “point of maximum circumference.” However, many studies do indeed use the thickest part to measure. So the number of 4.9 inches or whatever is actually the median and average girth of the thickest part of the penis.

I wonder how it was really done in Cancun then? In the Ansell-websites (Lifestyles-manufacturer) theres nothing about mid-shaft, atleast what I found. Rather on the contrary, in the ansell.au-website it suggests that the results of the studies that are listed there are measured at the base. Several studies lined up together and about one of them mentioned further down:

“Australian studies measure the circumference 1cm from the body. This dimension showed the greatest correlation with condom sizing.”
