Slack, you have the right approach, but newbies tend to jelq too hard against the curve and make it worse - I was one of those untill I understood that softer is better as you don’t damage the main tissue and allow yourself heal safely.
How can jelqing against the curve make it worse? It could possibly cause injury, but it wouldnt increase the curvature at all.
