Is My Extender Broken

My penimaster won’t display the traction when I screw it to Increase. It increases tension, but the entire thread just slides up together instead of the individual pieces becoming hidden. Noticed this as soon as I opened the box. It only does this when I screw both pieces simultaneously though. I’ve been getting around it by screwing one piece to the desired tension and then matching, but it pops out of place so that all the grooves are still showing. I can only screw so far without the spring popping though. It sucks I spent this much money for the shit to come broken. This might be confusing but yea, if anybody has had the same issue please lmk.
