Jelqing Grip

Hi all,

I’m starting out on the linear routine and am wondering which grip is best for focusing on girth with wet jelqing: palm up or palm down?

Also, is there any need to kegel before each jelq, or am I okay to just carry on without kegelling whilst jelqing?

Can’t speak for others, but I find for me palm down works best. From what I have seen either grip is valid. It just depends on preference and what works best for the individual.

As far as kegels go, be careful with that. A kegel here and there to get more pressure in the jelq is valid if you have a fading erection, but when just starting out with an unconditioned penis, kegeling before a jelq could result in too much pressure and lead to injury. Take it easy. All of the big gainers have been at this for years. It’s a marathon.

I found palm down makes the rest of my hand less obstructive, but maybe it’s all in the technique (?). I’d wait till shower time, and found doing light stretches first helped as a good warm up. With a palm down technique, I applied mild pressure as I jelqed. I would caution against death grips, but you certainly aren’t petting your unit either. As this site has advised many times over, look for physiological indicators (your body’s always telling you if something is wrong) to avoid over strenuous workouts or injury.

What I’m about to say is purely anecdotal but I found that if I could avoid masturbation after a good jelq session (which can be very tough), my penis remained swollen well after the procedure (without deflating like a balloon after ejaculation), and it was only then I began to see real progress (especially in length). I’m not suggesting to go “No-Nut November” per se, but just wait a bit, perhaps later in the evening before rubbing one out.

Two questions with regards to jelqing for all you seasoned pros out there:

1) Has anyone tried jelqing with a palm down V between the index and middle fingers? If so, how were/are the results?

2) Is kegelling before each jelq recommended to force more blood into the shaft, or is it best to jelq without?

I combine the normal jelq with the jelq with the palm of the hand between the index and middle fingers in an inverted V shape. It’s much smoother as a jelq so it’s easier for me and I think the results are good, although I can’t do an exact verification because as I said before I combine them with normal jelq. Kegels are always good for you so you can easily do them even before the jelq series. I salute you :up:

Sonnald, for wet jelqs I prefer palm down, shaft between thumb & forefinger, switching hands after each stroke. I alternate pulling down for a few strokes, then pull up. As to your question #2 — “Is kegelling before each jelq recommended to force more blood into the shaft, or is it best to jelq without?” — I don’t combine kegelling with jelqing, but do 50 or more as a separate exercise to improve muscle tone.

Also, I notice that the underside of my penis (corpus spongiosum) is flatter. I’m primarily concerned with girth as I’m happy with the length, but in terms of increasing the all round girth (top and bottom as well as on the sides), am I best doing both palms up and palms down jelqing, or is there something else that’s recommended?
