keeping gains?

This is my first post-I have done some inconclusive searches on this subject. If I start a PE program and quit after a certain period of time, will I keep my gains or will they disappear?

Whatever gains you get are permanent. If you gain an inch, then do a scaled down routine for several weeks to “cement” the gains in its permanent.
