Quality of threads cut into new vacuum pump cylinder?
Multiple questions; Thanks to all for any advice.
My first commercial vacuum pump cylinder finally came in from Boston Pump. Was impressed with the packaging and quality until I unscrewed the female quick disconnect coupling to check out the cylinder threads. Seems to be vertical lines of threads missing in 2 separate places at least 80% of the way up. There’s also black “dust” looking areas which don’t clean off - maybe it’s burned acrylic?. The female coupling screws in fine with normal resistance. Is this a normal thing for PE cylinders? I really don’t know the average quality of cylinder threads. Also I haven’t been able to test this rig out because I only ordered some male couplers from McMaster yesterday. Other than that the cylinder seems fine.
Assuming the threads are bogus has anyone successfully tapped their own threads in acrylic? If it doesn’t hold vacuum at the threads I’m debating tapping it up a size and using a larger quick disconnect, or even just permanently sealing another kind of fitting at the top that the female quick disconnect and o-ring could screw into.
Any opinions or advice would be appreciated before reaching to to BP customer service and dealing with a return as it took weeks to arrive the first time around.
