Ahhhh yes Thunder, I forgot. Those must be glitches in the Mainframe. Still, you do come across as seeming “mostly human”.

By the way, the reasons people haven’t used the rate a thread feature much are many fold. But chief among them would be its placement and its boring and clunky appearance. It needs to be at the top of threads and it doesn’t need to blend in. People look for drop down boxes only when they NEED something that isn’t right in front of them. People would use the rate a thread if it were at the top of the page and appeared simple to use, enjoyable to use, intuitive to use, and useful. Netflix would be a good site to check out for a good ratings input method. Its fun and visual and doesn’t seem like a chore when the stars are so intuitive, fun, and useful. Also you can reward users who rate by adding to their profile something that say “threads rated: 52”.

Like for you, under the word moderator it would say “threads rated: over 5 billion”.

We tried the rate a thread box at the top, at the bottom, posted and harassed members for help. You see the results. There is a “karma” function available, but at this point in time we are not planning on using it. Your idea is a good one, I do appreciate that you have taken the time to post it.

That was what I call an impulse avatar. It went along with a thread at the time. Like the subject, the thread abruptly turned sour and the avatar went with it. I really liked the Sublime sun too, I’ll probably bring it back at some point.

I’m going to go through my favorites and start rating them now that I know how. That will give us at least 100 more.

Actually Tube, check out Stevie’s favorite, seems he has them turned off though. :( He has a damn nice collection there. You might be able to access them through his profile button.

Hendrix was the longest lived avatar stevie, I can’t remember if it was your first or not though. Too long ago…

Honestly, its just too clunky to use (for me anyways). If you or another mod put it at the top of the threads and turn it into magical stars that light up then I guarantee I will rate one thread per day for the rest of my membership. I would also do it for you if you thought the idea meshes with your site plan.

By the way, I don’t want to come across as all negative and preachy. There are many excellent design choices that have already been made and implemented very well on this site. I think your site just from a design and useability perspective is one of the best ones out there.

I don’t have a TON of experience in web design or anything so take my suggestions for what they’re worth. I do have a fair amount of experience in this area though and consider it a talent.

ps, thanks for the info about stevie’s favorites. That is another excellent feature of the site that I haven’t been using enough.

They’re still on Thunder. Hey, now that we’re talking about additions to the site, how about a button linking directly to everyone’s favorites? It could go along with the Profile, PM, Search, Buddy buttons. Like the rating option, I think favorites can be a great way to share good threads with others.
