Weak erections when lying on back - can't stay hard

Hey all,
Just wondering if anyone else has this issue and if anyone knows what can be done about it. I have normal erections standing up and sitting down, but lying down on my back I can’t stay hard. I can’t do girl on top well at all, usually can’t be hard enough to get it in or I lose it soon after. I am only 22. I think a few issues may be involved:

1. I have a thin/ weak base of my penis, although I know it is more common to have a bigger base. My middle and head are ~4.9 inches but base is only about 4.5. And the spongiosum is a significant part of this, and it doesn’t contribute to strength very much since it is weaker than the cavernosum. If a girl does get on top and I am semi-hard, I am afraid it will bend at the base and hurt me. Or there is a good chance I won’t be hard.

2. I am still working on my EQ since I realized I was someone who “clenched” for most of my life while jerking off. So I get involuntary kegels sometimes, and have to think about relaxing my pelvic floor while getting hard. So I believe doing a routine with more RKs will help balance this.

I have a question about how good does someone’s cardiovascular fitness need to be to have pretty good EQ? I am in good shape, am 22 and have ~12% BF and not much of a fat pad. I can run a mile in about 6:45 so I feel like my cardio fitness is not the issue. Either way I think I may have low-ish testosterone so I will probably have to have amazing cardio to make up for my weak boners lying down. In general, even standing up my boners are decent but not great, which I think is related to my thin base as well. And my boner points straight out, not up which is often a characteristic of good blood flow and strong EQ. It is definitely good enough for penetration in most positions, but it is kind of wobbly at the base even when hard since it is top-heavy. My midshaft seems hard and unable to be bent much, but the base can be bent more due to its thin size.

Related to porn, this is probably an issue but even when I haven’t watched porn in a week or so the base is still wobbly. It is definitely worse after porn but the problem still exists without the negative effects of porn. Thanks for your help!

Personally I’d try exercise, healthy diet, less masturbation and quit porn (I know, easier said than done. I still struggle too.) Overall health and stress/anxiety affect EQ immensely.

I struggle with this as well. I have a lower EG around 4.2 but never had an issue until I started PE 2 years ago and mentally lost my mind.

I experienced numbness during sex once and I also noticed larger flaccid. With this came weaker erections, I used to be rock hard. Makes me wonder if more blood is needed in penis and not arriving.

I also wake up sometimes with my CC thin as a reed. It doesn’t engorge fully like I’m used to. I’m pretty freaked out by all of this. Barely have a girl on top and I love that position.

Hi, I would say I already have a pretty good diet and regular exercise. But I have never really had good enough EQ to consistently stay hard on my back, even during low stress and healthy periods of my life. I said above I can run a 6:45 mile, but I feel like plenty of guys who are less in shape than me can still get a good boner lying on their back. So I don’t think it is really diet/exercise/stress related.

Hey guys, following up: pretty sure it is mostly due to the clenching I have been habitually doing for years when jerking off. That puts my kegels balance off and I believe RKs will help me achieve better EQ. When I RK while lying down, it seems to help keep me harder, but I am still building up strength. Most problems have several causes, out of 100% of this problem 70% is probably my over-clenched kegel muscle while 30% is due to my thin base. Anyone else experienced this?

What are your stats? Like what is your base girth? I know base girth is commonly thicker, but for me it is thinner which is rare. Still, when I am standing or sitting my EQ is fine. Sounds like you’re shaped like a “baseball bat”. Several guys are shaped this way here. There are routines to fix it and build more base girth. Try looking them up.

I have a similar issue. When I lay down I partially lose my erection. When I was younger, I did not have this problem. If I am standing or sitting, my EQ is good. With that said, I can no longer be on the bottom but that’s okay since I am a top guy and like to control the speed and movement. I never really cared for being on the bottom although my wife really likes it.

How’s your kegel strength? It almost sounds as if the blood is draining from your unit while on your back instead of pumping in. My erections on my back since starting PE aren’t as good as before. (Aside from the occasional back eager) I blame this on unit requiring more blood as it’s taking a beating more often and has grown a bit. Pre PE I got rock hard erections in any position. However, as I’ve worked my kegel more, I’ve gained back quite a bit of what I lost on my back.

I am well rested, haven’t been PEing much recently ( Full rest for the past 1 week or more) . As long as I can remember I couldn’t get hard on my back whether PEing or not. I wish there was a good way to compare kegel strength. I can flex my kegel muscle and hold it without faltering for at least 20 seconds? Is that a normal strength? I have never done any kind of weighted kegels or even understood how it is possible, due to some factors I list below such as low erection angle.

I can’t tell if there’s something wrong with my penis or not. I have a combination of “Uncommon” issues it seems like. I never understood how people complain about their erection angles pointing to their belly and being unmovable, since mine has always been quite movable at the base. I might make a new post since I think I am realizing I have some issues I didn’t realize before.

1st, I don’t have a suspensory ligament/ mine is very loose or small. On the dorsal side of my boner I can’t feel anything in the middle between my pubic region and base of the dorsal side. There is a small indentation, in fact, when I think there should be the opposite, a ligament I should be able to feel. I have never had a high erection angle, it has been below parallel my whole life (I am 22 as said before). At times it has risen to parallel or a tiny bit above after a few weeks of consistent kegels. But in these cases the “Neutral” angle that it maintains without any effort from me would still be below parallel. It only increases to parallel or above when I kegel, which I can hold for about 10 seconds strongly but after that I can still hold the muscle but the erection falls to a semi within about 10 seconds. For example, if I am not touching my dick at all, the highest it will get to is 10 degrees below parallel. I would have to think constantly to keep it like this, most of the time it will fall down to a semi within about 10 seconds. When I have hooked up with girls, I would stimulate myself for a few seconds before insertion.

2nd I have a thin base, which may be contributing, although a bigger base is typical.

At this point I realize I don’t know if I have ever had what many guys on thundersplace would consider a good (9+ EQ) boner. I have only ever been with a girl doggy and missionary, both of which don’t require much more than 7 EQ. I could insert and finish and I would consider it a boner still, but I have never been able to maintain a boner without manual stimulation for more than 10 seconds. I used to think this was normal.

The way that I can achieve the highest EQ I have ever experienced for me is to manually stimulate myself until about 5-10 seconds before finishing, and then reverse kegel strongly. This seems to prevent blood outflow better BC of the reverse kegel, and I can hold an erection angle about 10 degrees above parallel to the floor for about 10-15 seconds until I can’t RK any more.

This has seemed normal to me for most of my life so I didn’t think anything was wrong. I know it seems like everyone these days is saying they have a mild venous leak, but is it possible for me too?

Related: I don’t think I have ever had true morning wood. I used to think I had it a normal amount, but it is more like a morning semi. I get morning semis regularly, but I am never pointing straight out or above parallel (Full boner) when I wake up. I have also quit porn for up to 3-4 months at a time, and while my erections were better, they were never pointing at parallel for more than 10 seconds without any effort from me. When I read on this forum that people my age can have boners/ morning wood and walk around for 30 seconds or so and they are still parallel or pointing up it worried me. I had thought my morning semis were normal but I believe they are too low EQ to be normal.
