A systematic error in measuring BPFSL

I’ve recently started measuring my BPFSL on a daily basis to monitor progress with a home made stretcher.

My measuring technique is to

1) stand up straight
2) pull penis out horizontally by the glans with one hand
3) with the other hand bone press a ruler as hard as possible and place the measuring edge of the ruler along the centre line of the top surface of penis

What I have noticed is that, if I hold the ruler in my left hand and my dick in my right hand, then I get a 0.25” longer length reading than if I swap over and hold the ruler in my right hand and my dick in the left.

The reason, I think, is that there is a ligament on the right hand side which gets pressed upon when the ruler is on that side. When the ruler is on the other side I can pull my dick out a quarter inch further.

Anyone else noticed this?

I measured my BPFSL just last night for the first time. I was stretching and thought that it looked really long. When I measured I was suprised at a very healthy 7” BPFSL. I only did it with the one hand though. I’ll try the other hand tonight and see what I come up with mbuc.

Perhaps you’re overthinking this and one hand is simply stronger than the other.

Well that might have something to do with it, but I don’t think there is that much strength difference between my two hands. Anyway, whatever causes it I still see a difference:)

Just thought it might be worth baring in mind when aiming for consistent measuring.

BTW Before the Grammar and English usage police (where are you Mr. Happy - we miss you!) get on my back, I should have said “systamatic” not “systemic” in the thread title.

The main point is to do your measurement consistently, so you have a valid way to confirm growth.

I always measure BPFSL by laying down my tally stick on top, with the Left edge centered to bisect the urethra and the base pressing tightly as low on the pubic bone/ fat pad as I can get it. I secure it with my right hand and stretch with my left, marking the tally stick with my thumb as I release. Then I pen mark it and date it.

Then and ony then do I hold the tally stick to a transparent ruler to find my new number. I use a paint stirrer available free at any hardware store. I always use a fresh one so that I don’t cheat to beat a prior benchmark, and I do the same with BPEL.

It’s actually kind of neat laying them side by side and seeing my progress- I keep them rubber-banded together and break them out whenever I need PE motivation or I begin to doubt PE works.

5/8”- 15mm since 1Jan05. Objectively measured. No Bullshit.

[I consider BPEL ambiguous for reasons stated elswhere, thus only take it when I’ve got particularly good wood.]

Not impressed? I am. I’ve had this dick for 42 years and am only now getting to really know it.

BTW- after reading of your experience regarding measuring hand differential, I switched up and found no substantive change. Regardless, gprent is correct, consistent measuring technique is important for tracking gains, so if you prefer your right hand measure over your left, thenstick with it.

As long as the measurement is consistent, it doesn’t really matter. You’re doing this measurement to mark progress for yourself.

I agree totally.

I’m glad I noticed the variation between having the ruler in my right or left hand because I could easily do it either way and the 1/4” difference would introduce a lot of extra uncertainty into the measurements.
