Gain Master PE Software Release!!!

I can’t believe you gave up MS Office for the hope of maybe getting this PE program that you don’t even know if you will like. That’s a pretty big sacrifice.

Horny Bastard

Yeah, I want to use the program really bad for some reason.

I know! I feel really bad for him. He’s the only one I know that had problems with the install. I hope I can help him get it running.

Nick, I’m going to do some more research on this. Do you have all the latest Windows updates installed?
Are you running XP Service Pack 2? If not, you should do the updates. I will get back with you.
Sorry this has been such a hassle.

No dramas, Iguana. :) I just hope we can eventually get to the bottom of it.

I’ve never updated windows since I installed from the disk, I DON’t THINK (I may have, can’t remember). My copy of XP is not what you would call legal, so I tend to stay away from the updates in fear of not being able to use my computer again.

The service pack deal sounds familiar, I MAY have updated that. How do I find out?

This could very well be the root of the problem. MS Office (all versions) is very interdependent with the operating system.
It shares tons of dlls, so not being up to date could definitely cause this issue. Unfortunately, Microsoft has a recently added validation
tool to insure your copy of Windows is legal and without installing it you can’t receive updates. It installs with Service Pack 2, so if you
are running an illegal copy, I doubt it would install. You can check by right clicking on “My Computer” and choosing “Properties.” It will
be listed under “System.”

Now that Vista is out a legal copy of XP should be cheap and easy to find. You might want to consider that. Look on Craigslist or E-Bay, I’m
sure someone somewhere has a copy they are wanting to unload.

I’m very confident that this is the problem.

I accidentally deleted the ‘My Computer’ shortcut from my desktop about a month ago, D’oh! And I don’t know how to get it back. But is control ‘panel > system’ the same thing?

If so, my ‘system’ thingy said:

Microsoft Windows XP
Professional
Version 2002

It doesn’t say anything about a service pack. Have a looked at this right?

So, for GainMaster to work for me, I need to buy a copy of windows XP? That’s not really feasible for me right now. I don’t have a credit card, therefore ebay is out of the picture. And also, I’m saving to be able to LIVE properly, now that I’m moving out of home and sharing a house with friends. :D So money is almost like a long a distant memory for me, haha. I can’t afford to spend anything.

Ehhh, I guess I won’t be able to use gainmaster then. :(

Thanks for your attention anyway, Iguana.

Nick, yes, you are in the right spot and no you don’t have Service Pack 2 installed.

And, yes, in order for Gain Master to work properly Windows XP needs to be somewhat up to date.
And in order for you to get it up to date it needs to be a legal copy.

Sorry, you are unable to use the software. Hopefully, you will run across a cheap copy soon.

Iguana

Iguana,

Just to let you know, I found a way to install service pack 2 without buying a copy of XP.

So I installed it, tried to load GainMaster, and you know what? It worked. :) So now I’m using GainMaster - yay! Lack of windows update was the problem all along.

I’ll make my comment after I’ve gotten more familiar with it. Thanks again.

Hey, that’s great to hear! Let me know what you think. It’s funny, there have been over 100 downloads but I think only

1 person has sent any feedback. I would really like to know how it is working for everyone.

Let’s see that, Iguana, thank you for your effort. :)

Iguana,

I’m a little confused with the program. I’m not much good with “values” and “formulae” and such.

I don’t really know how to explain what I don’t understand, because I don’t really know. But what I do know is that I can’t really get the program to do what I want it to do.

I’ve put in my starting stats, I’ve set my goals. However I don’t know what to do about “routine ID’s”. I don’t know what the “protocol” is all about.

I’m stuck with how to add new stats. I want to set it out like my PE statistics are set out. Kind of like a timeline with a new stat entered every 2 or 3 weeks or whatever. But I don’t understand “ending stats” and “starting stats” and all that. How do I add new stats?

I tried to add new stats, and it seemingly worked. But then the next time I loaded up the program, the starting stats were reset. And when I click on “add stats” it says ‘You have already updated this record’. I really have no idea what I’m doing here, hehe.

Also what does “IPR-based” mean? Should I check that?

Also, does this program create a graphical representation of your gains/predictions? Cos that is really what I’m after. It would be great!

Don’t worry about Routine IDs this is simply a number that represents your routine number. For instance, the Newbie Routine could be Routine ID 1,
the Modified Newbie routine, Routine ID 2, and so on…

Protocol, simply means all the exercises in your routine.

After you update your ending stats they become your starting stats for the next routine.

For example, after the Newbie Routine, you are at 6” BPEL, 5” EG, 4” FL and so on. After you update your stats these become
your starting stats for the next routine. So when you update they move from the ending stats boxes to the starting stats boxes.

The “You have already updated this record” message comes up if you try to update again.

Check this only if you are doing an IPR routine. If you are not sure what that is do a search here on Thunders.

No, not at the moment. Access 2007 does not support graphs and charts. It was available in vs 2003. Hopefully it will be again.

I hope this helps!

Aw damn. Windows only? There’s always wine(well, Darwine), I guess. I’ll see how that goes.

Size is little more than a controllable perception without an accurate means of measurement.

Hey Iguana if you need help with the programing I’m very fluent in asm basic and C/C++. It would be very cool to create a stand alone exe.

Hey I just downloaded this, it looks great! I’m going to enter my stats and start using it next time I measure.
