Has it really been two years?????

I guess it has been. I am celebrating my two year anniversary here at Thunders today.

Wow has the time flown !!! I’ve come in contact with some really wonderful people here, and somewhere along the line I hope I’ve helped a few. I try.

Thunder, thanks for having this great site, and for being our ‘fearless’ leader. You are the greatest.

Much love to all here. :kisskiss:

Time does indeed fly. I have only just turned 24 and time seems to be going buy twice as quick as when I was a young teenager and four times quicker than when I was just a small child. It will undoubtedly speed up more as I age. I find time goes much slower when I am in a phase of my life filled with daily meditation. Things feel almost timeless.

I think this percieved time distortion must be down to everything being new and undiscovered to children so they are always in the moment and time seems to last forever. As we get older everything becomes familiar and we stop living every second in the moment and time just drifts by without us extracting the juice and experience from every moment, so it is like it never happened to us. If we meditate, we place ourselves in the moment however and time often slows in perception. Carrying through into the rest of the day somewhat.

Well, anyway, happy anniversary Sunshine. It is only a month or so before my 2 year anniversary.

Sunshine, congrats man.

Hey Gottagrow
Don’t wanna redirect this thread, but I’ve been curious about meditation for awhile. Any suggestions on where to begin? How much time do you dedicate to it? I’ve meditated before, prior to an athletic event or musical performance, but never as part of my daily routine. It seems logical that this could be VERY beneficial when done correctly.

gwinea, I suggest you buy a book on meditation. A non religious meditation book, or atleast combining different meditational practises from different religions, so that it isn’t slanted in it’s views.

The simplest and most effective way to meditate that I have come across is to take any inanimate object, such as an apple etc, and picture it in your mind’s eye, suspended in space and time so that the only thing which exsists is the object. Even you don’t exsist in this picture, all you see is the object, all you think is the object. Then focus on this object to the exclusion of any other thought. It is much, much harder than you think. Within seconds you will find other thoughts popping into your head, constantly destracting you. The work will be hard at first, your mind a mess with little control over what it thinks. Through practise your mind will clarify and be able to concentrate on a single thought for prolongued periods. Each time another thought pops into your head, you force your mind straight back to the object in your mind’s eye. Over and over and over, absorbing yourself with the object. Rotating it in your mind’s eye or zooming in and out if needs be. Anything to keep your mind on only it. During a 15 minute exercise, it will gradually become easier and easier to keep your focus on the object without distractions. After great effort your mind will become still, centred, quiet for the first time. Quieter than you have likely ever experienced before. Any thoughts you do have will be very clear and are often full of revealations. I often feel like previous misconceptions have fallen away and I can see things truthfully. It is a very calming and pleasant state in which your mind seems to float. Things often feel timeless or unattached to the way you saw time previously. With daily practise it becomes very quick and easy to slip into this state and centre your mind.

Look for a good book at amazon.com.

Now, let’s get back to the subject at hand.
