Good idea. Get the noisiest clicking pen you can. The keep it in your pants pocket for a while. If she hasn’t found it, at some point pull it out and click it and say “oh, is this what you’ve been hearing? I started keeping these pens a while ago, and never thought about it”.
Personally, I always go for what I can only think to call a plausible denial subterfuge. For instance, keep a small clamp on you keychain, and use it sometimes to attach your keys to your belt loop “for convenience”, or to hang your keys up somewhere so you “won’t lose them”. If you start keeping a loose one in your pocket now (in your case, maybe not actually on the keychain yet), and increasingly using it on your keys - or maybe sometimes leaving it out with your keys at night - until she notices, you might also be able to similarly convince her that you started carrying them a while back and never realized that was the clicking noise she was hearing. You can also claim that they sometimes click tighter on their own if somehow pressed while being carried in your pocket, which could explain odd clicks. Plus you set up plausible deniability for the possibility (or eventuality) that she finds one of your larger PE clamps, since then she thinks she knows what you use clamps for and you already have an explanation mostly formed in your mind - “oh yeah, bigger ones come in the assortment package I get”.
Does my mind work in devious ways, or what? The problem is, based on a long-term relationship that recently ended badly, I’m no longer sure that it’s really worth being in a relationship where you feel like you have to act duplicitously.
