hmm, this seems like odd advice. So you think I should stand in hurricane winds? Well I’ve lived in Florida my whole life, you either leave town days before it gets here or you board up and stay. Really the last thing you want to do is stand in it.

However the news reporters go to the coast and stand in the winds on their news reports. I saw Geraldo stand in at least 85 mph winds. It isn’t a wise thing to do, but it sure is entertaining to watch.

I’d pay to see Geraldo get hit in the head by a coconut travelling 85 mph.

One need only leave the surface of the planet to realize we are all one people.

Did Al Capone’s farts really blow @ 45 mph? I must have missed that part of the broadcast! (:

Well the thread title is ” Not another one!!!!!!!!!” and the concerned sweet lady’s advice is to, get out run for the hills. It had a sky is falling tone, and I just wanted to add some perspective with “humor”.

If it sounded like I meant 85mph is nothing, everyone should run outside and play in it, well I did not meant to suggest that. I guess when you don’t live in the path of a hurricane you dont know how the system is set up.

A Meteorologist is a strange creature, he can’t tell you local weather patterns like if it’s going to rain or not on a given day. So you kinda assume, well these schmucks dont know anything. Well they know hurricanes, they can predict how they will track quite accurately within a few days. When they tell you it’s going to this place or that place it most likely goes almost right where they predicted. And if it is a bad ass storm, the local government will issue evacuation warnings. And if it’s a killer storm the local government will issue a mandatory evacuation.

No mandatory evacuation is given for a cat1 I can assure you. In fact a cat1 is a fun storm, dont run outside and play in it mind you. And it’s never fun when you live on the coast. But thats because the storm surge effect people on the coast. Us people inland get our grass nice and watered, and maybe a day off from work or school.

Had you read a little farther, I stated that if it looked like any flooding was going to happen to leave.

sunny A day without sunshine is like a day without laughter :sun:

As the hurricane said to the coconut tree, ” Hold onto your nuts, this will be one blow job you’ll never forget”

Forty-mile an hour winds across bow of an air craft carrier is enough to launch Tom Cats off the flight deck.

Well sugar lips, I did in fact read you’re entire post. Those people in North Carolina are hurricane veterans. They get hit by more hurricanes than anywhere I know of. I swear it seems like every season they are hit by at least two. I’m sure they know exactly what to expect and what to do.

Yep, all veterans just like all those storm savvy folks in New Orleans. People usually don’t clear out until the roof is coming off. I never did. The four hurricanes I lived through my seventeen years in South Florida, not once did I evacuate, even during Andrew. I was always figting to keep my boats off the reefs and or seawalls, a battle I usually lost.

Mr. Pud,

Your condescending attitude caught my attention, and the attention of a few other mods. Its like this, I have been through no hurricanes, but I have been through a few blizzards and tornado’s in my time. And when the warning is given, especially that a bad snow storm is headed your way, you go stock up on food, and batteries and water and what ever else might be necessary for survival. In a tornado, you bend over put your head between your legs and kiss your ass, home and anything in its path goodbye. When that warning goes off, you take cover immediately. You don’t decide to wait it out.

Now, the next time you decide to call me sugar lips, or sweetie or any other sexist comment my finger will be on the trigger. I have had it with your attitude. I was showing concern for my fellow thunder’s members, too bad you don’t share in my concern.

Consider this your only warning.

They can stack those things below deck if they have enough warning though, otherwise they’d lose a few every trip out on the open seas. Reminds me of a funny pic which Ive attached :D

You know when I was in the nav it was peacetime in the med, and that photo’s not far off. In fact the day I separated and airlifted off the flight deck for fleet landing in Athens Greece, we had just come back from Lebanon with enough red hashish to keep the entire crew high during a five month deployment. We were having a Fourth of July function on the flight deck complete with steaks on the grill beer and a live band. We tried to get Led Zeppelin, but they wouldn’t go for it.
