Prevention of erectile dysfunction

I am interested in Medical Prevention in general (of, e.g., coronary artery disease) and in Prevention of Erectile Dysfunction in particular.

My current understanding is that the penile artery, which is smaller than the coronary arteries, is affected by arterial disease BEFORE the coronary, cerebral and other arteries. As a consequence, men with erectile dysfunction often develop coronary heart disease later inthere life.

It also follows that preventive measures against erectile dysfunction are at least in part identical to those for coronary heart disease (no smoking, arterial blood pressure, blood sugar and blood lipids in the normal range, exercise .).

On the other hand, specific preventive measures against the development of erectile dysfunction are less well known. Some hypotheses exist around the role of spontaneous nocturnal erections, but no clear concepts have arisen so far.

I would welcome everybody who is interested in the subject to join the thread and share his thoughts and I hope this will become an interesting discussion.

Interesting, ttt. You know, my role is the Devil Advocate, so don’t be bothered:
venile leakage is not the unique cause of erectile disfunction, by what I know.In example, changes in TA elastic components have some role:

http://cat.inis t.fr/?aModele=a … &cpsidt=2542632

Also, if I’m not bad infomed, about 10-30% of ED have a psychological predominant cause.

Above that, I can say this basing on my personal experience: I had ED in some mild form, years ago. PE has been the remedy, in my case: more specifically, I think jelqs had most of the merit for that.

I thank you for your comments which are correct. Statistically, I believe that arterial disease is the most common cause of ED in "the aging male", followed by venous leak; psychological reasons are the least frequent (formerly - before viagra - thought to be the cause muh more frequently. And: ED is an age problem. The older we get the more likely we will be affected .

If arterial disease affecting ED precedes heart problems, that would be something for the general health checks.

But I’m not sure if nurses are going to get true answers.

Taped onto the dashboard of a car at a junkyard, I once found the following: "Good judgement comes from experience. Experience comes from bad judgement." The car was crashed.

Primary goal: To have an EQ above average (i.e. streetsmart, compassionate about life and happy) Secondary goal: to make an anagram of my signature denoting how I feel about my gains

100 Kegels a Day and you’re on your way

Fully 40 percent of all ED has a base cause in vascular issues; then side effects caused by diabetes (about 30 percent), then medications one takes for other physical problems (15 percent); followed by surgical and injury effects, and then a few other things.

Just that small amount of knowledge gives us a lot of food for thought on how to prevent ED later in life.

Good thread topic, ttt.

I take:

1g calcium ascorbate x 2
300mg alpha lipoic acid x 2
1 dessert spoon pomegranate concentrate (in some other juice, for taste) x 2 (very good stuff)

I may never get heart disease :)

Pussy Pounder

Hey

(I’m sorry but my grammar is rubbish and that stops me from placing too much input to this forum, I would love to help more but I’m a man of maths not of words lol)

I do not know totally about health (still learning ha!) but erectile dysfunction can be cause by lack of vitamin, minerals and the increased amounts of rubbished pumped into us from medication, drugs (illegal and legal drugs) and the sources of which our food comes from (like non-organic food), other things can be contributed by our diets from an early age which will soon effect us in later life. Me for example, when I was young I was mainly fat, didn’t eat the right stuff and I started smoking at 16 and still do (I’m 19 now ha). My full potential should be 6.5 inches in length which I get while doing PE but sometimes I can only manage 4 inches to 5.5 inches when I’m not.

The point is that what you eat at a young age does in fact have an effect at an older age and when your older, your body starts to fall apart cause of all these factors then it’s hard to reverse the effect (unless your vitamin and mineral in take is higher), pussy pounder has a sustained intake of essentials that should prevent erectile dysfunction from happening. Thing is tho, on this site earlier I tried looking for a diet which would be beneficial to PE training but I couldn’t find one. Thing is tho, we are training to make our muscle bigger but like in weight training, a well planned workout is really only 30%-50% of the battle, I think beside the newbie routine there should be a sufficient diet because a muscle doesn’t bet bigger from just working it out. If we have nutrition plan for PE training then maybe we can avoid member from falling subject to erectile dysfunction and a quicker gain could also be achieved

You guys are pretty much hitting all the target causes of ED. I’m running into 18 year olds that show beginning signs of ED. Sad!

Speak softly carry a big dick, I'm mean stick!

Studies show that erections increase the oxygen supply to the corpora cavernosa. Other studies show that loss of oxygenation causes loss of smooth muscle and replacement by fibrotic tissue in the corpora which are clearly associated with ED. Consequently, frequent erections should be protective! Spontaneous nocturnal erections can be enhanced in frequency and quality (duration, hardness) by the use of viagra at bedtime (before sleep - not before sex). But I would assume that erections induced by whatever (manual or other stimulation by oneself or partner, porn etc) should also be preventive.

*** Use it or loos it ***

Other ideas?

Haven’t studies showed that physical training can prevent ED?

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - There’s new advice for older men who want to preserve their sexual function: have sex, and have it often, researchers say.

In a study that followed nearly 1,000 older Finnish men for five years, researchers found that those who were regularly having sex at the start of the study were at lower risk of developing erectile dysfunction (ED) by the study’s end.

In fact, the more often the men had sex, the lower their ED risk.

The implication, say the researchers, is that men should be encouraged to stay sexually active into their golden years.

Dr. Juha Koskimaki and colleagues at the University of Tampere in Finland report the findings in the American Journal of Medicine. The study included 989 men who were between the ages of 55 and 75 at the outset.

Overall, those who said they had sex less than once per week were twice as likely to develop ED over the next five years as men who had sex at least once a week. Furthermore, compared with men who had sex three or more times per week, their ED risk was increased nearly four-fold.

A number of factors contribute to ED development, many of which could also affect a man’s sexually activity — such as age, diabetes and heart disease. However, after taking account of those factors, sexual activity itself remained linked to ED risk, Koskimaki’s team found.

It may be a matter of "use it or lose it," according to the researchers. Just as exercise boosts physical fitness, they note, regular sexual activity may help a man preserve his erectile function.

ED occurs when there are problems with blood flow to the penis. Regular sexual activity, Koskimaki’s team writes, may help maintain healthy blood vessel function in the erectile tissue.

I’m a believer in the "use it or lose it" principle.

Yes there seems to be a relation, - physical inactivity is considered a risk factor for ed. I am trying to find a paper where specific exercises are recommended, I will update the thread as soon as I get a hold of that paper.

Thanks for that contribution - I will try to find the article.

I found another paper which suggests that some environmental / job-related factors might play a role: lead, organic solvents, stilbene, carbon disulfide, and pesticides.
